- The news came as a shock since the couple had announced the arrival of their daughter Esti at the start of the year.
- Teigen and Legend lost their 20-week son in 2020, and the cookbook author opened up about the experience.
John Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, recently became a family of six. The couple recently welcomed their fourth child, Wren Alexander, after they announced the arrival of their daughter Esti Maxine at the beginning of the year.
Since the arrival of their son, Teigen and Legend have been updating their social media with pictures of their kids. On July 15, 2023, the musician shared carousel images and himself and his kids.
The singer and proud father of four captured himself smiling beside his son Miles, who was also seen carrying his little brother Wren and captioned the sweet moment, "The boys." The second, third, and fourth slides showed individual images of his sons.
Teigen and Legend have also shared other cute moments of their family adjusting to the two new additions. The cookbook author posted other adorable moments, with the first image in the carousel showing her, her mother, and her two youngest children lying on a playmat.
Welcoming Esti and Wren was particularly special because the couple lost their son Jack in 2020 due to pregnancy complications. Even though they have grown their family, their late son will forever be a part of them.
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen Welcomed Their Son Just Five Months after Their Daughter's Arrival
Since Teigen had recently announced the arrival of her daughter, Esti, fans were shocked to find out that the couple had been expecting a fourth child via surrogacy.
The former model shared the good news with a lengthy Instagram post, explaining the lead-up to Wren's birth. After losing her son, Jack, Teigen was sure she could not carry a child again and had made peace with it.
Therefore, the cookbook author reached out to a surrogate agency where she inquired about getting two surrogates that would give her and her family a baby boy, girl, or even twins.
Despite the immense pain of saying goodbye to Jack, Teigen remembered coming out of a therapy session and telling her husband she wanted to try to fall pregnant again. She explained that she did not want to look back and wished she had given it one last shot.
Teigen went through the IVF process one last time, which was also how she welcomed her daughter Luna and son Miles. Amid trying to conceive again, the mother of four met up with her surrogate Alexandra.
When the former model found out she was pregnant, she and her husband were over the moon but were still crippled by the fear of their last pregnancy. However, Teigen ensured she was under the care of great doctors and had the support of her friends and family.
Things for Alexandra did not go well at first. The first embryo that was harvested did not survive. But Teigen expressed how grateful she was for her surrogate to be willing to undergo surgeries that would help make the second round successful. Eventually, Alexandra became pregnant, simultaneously making her and the former model pregnant.
Teigen continued to express her love and appreciation for her surrogate and to have had the opportunity to share such a sacred process with her. In honor of Alexandra giving birth to her healthy baby boy, Wren, Teigen and Legend gave him a middle name inspired by their surrogate.
Chrissy Teigen Opens Up About Losing Her Son Jack
Teigen opened up about losing her son in a candid account she wrote on Medium. She opened up about some of the complications she experienced during her pregnancy that led to her son's passing.
She revealed that she was placed on bed rest early in her pregnancy after being diagnosed with partial placenta abruption, and the doctors wanted her to get to 28 weeks for them to deliver the baby safely.
However, things only got worse, and Teigen kept losing more blood to the point where her son was not getting enough liquid. At 20 weeks, she went to the hospital thinking she would deliver her son but was told that she had to say goodbye to him.
According to Teigen, the pregnancy would have put her and her child's life at risk. She announced the sad news on social media, and one of the heartbreaking photos she shared was of her sitting on the hospital bed crying.
In her Medium article, the former model reiterated how she did not care if people did not like the photos she posted because it was something that she asked her family to capture. In the same way, she documented the beautiful births of her children, Teigen knew she would share her story with the world.
In the initial post, Teigen said she suffered a miscarriage but later confessed to realizing she had an abortion. Her realization came after she sympathized with people who had to make the tough decision to abort. At that point, Legend told her she was one of those people.
"And I became really frustrated that I didn't, in the first place, say what it was, and I felt silly that it had taken me over a year to actually understand that we had had an abortion," confessed Teigen. Teigen was advised to terminate her pregnancy because her son would not have survived, and her life would have been in danger without medical intervention.
