Last year, a world-renowned musician who is 53 opened up about the life-changing impact music has had on her for as long as she can remember. Having grown up with dyslexia, the artist revealed how she started learning to communicate verbally through song.

She expressed what a revelation it became to discover her ability to tell her story through her art because she previously thought it impossible to become a clear communicator. Before discovering her passion for music, she found it challenging to fit in.

While speaking on her honorary award at the New York Women in Communications 52nd Annual Matrix Awards in 2022, the singer admitted to still being in disbelief of her accomplishments as an artist. She stated:

"I mean, these things happen to me, and I'm like, 'How is this my life?'... It just makes you reflect a lot on your childhood and your younger you, and you're like, 'There's no way that that girl is here right now.' Because so much has happened, and it's just unexpected... I was just being me."

The talented singer, who has three siblings and grew up in Fullerton, California, also divulged some information about how her parents raised her. According to the artist, her mom and dad were fairly strict with her all the way into her 20s when she was still living under their roof.

During the breakdown of one of her most famous songs, "Just a Girl," the musician spoke about how her parents' parenting style influenced and inspired her to create the song. Another interesting fact about the artist is that she started her first band with her brother.

Having grown up with a stepfather himself, Shelton described having a great prototype for him to take inspiration from when raising his stepsons.

Concerning the start of her journey as a songwriter, she discussed how there was no unique process for writing. The hitmaker expressed:

"I just literally started songwriting. I didn't even know that I knew how to song write."

Her carefree, edgy, rocker-girl flare came as a natural progression after finding out more about who she was as an artist. The little girl with dyslexia who never imagined she would achieve great success as a star is none other than the sensationally popular Gwen Stefani.

Blake Shelton Opened Up about His Love for Gwen Stefani & Their Rural Family Life on Their Oklahoma Ranch

Stefani and Blake Shelton's love story began in 2015 when they started dating. Five years later, the duo got engaged in October and married a year later. Though Shelton addressed not viewing his wife as the superstar she is, he admitted to there being a few times in which he gets starstruck by Stefani's beauty and presence.

Nowadays, the lovebirds live a quaint rural life on their Oklahoma ranch with their kids, Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo Rossdale. Stefani, in particular, is delighted to be living the farm life and avidly posts pictures and videos of her nature-filled and off-the-grid lifestyle on social media. Of their strong bond and love for each other, doting hubby Shelton said:

"The relationship that we have is so natural and so normal. This feels like the easiest thing I've ever been a part of. To me, she's my best friend and everything that I need and lean on."

Gwen Stefani Is a Doting Mom of Three & Blake Shelton Is a Loving Stepfather Who Left 'The Voice' for More Family Time

Stefani became a mom of three boys during her previous marriage to her ex-husband, and fellow musician, Gavin Rossdale. Like their loving mom, Stefani disclosed that all three boys also have dyslexia. Of her parenting style, Stefani divulged:

"I was in a band and free my whole life, so I always thought I would be really free with [my kids] and do whatever I wanted... But you learn that when they have boundaries is when they feel the safest. The hardest thing to do is having a discipline chart and follow up on all those things."

The "Cool" singer's eldest son, Kingston, has been described as a spitting image of his father and has also taken an interest in the music industry. Kingston's younger brother, Zuma, is deemed a mini version of his mom and an all-around goofball with a great sense of humor. Stefani's last born, Apollo, is the apple of both his older brothers' eyes, who protect and love him fiercely.

Shelton may be the boys' stepdad, but the country star loves them as though they were his own biologically. Having grown up with a stepfather himself, Shelton described having a great prototype for him to take inspiration from when raising his stepsons. Additionally, Shelton's unwavering devotion to the boys saw him give up his spot as a co-judge on "The Voice" to focus on his life as a stepfather to his adored sons.

Stefani and Shelton will achieve their two-year wedding milestone in October this year. The happy couple continues to enjoy living on their Oklahoma ranch, raising their three sons.
