Larry Gilmore, a 41-year-old male, was robbed and beaten in a hotel lobby at the Even Hotel in Pittsburgh. He had his honeymoon with his wife, Shalawrae, ruined on the night of Monday, July 24, after they tied the knot that Sunday.

Larry was reportedly waiting for the elevator when the attacker came from behind and started choking him. After he got Larry on the floor, the surveillance footage showed the suspect banging his head and walking away with a limp and the victim's wallet and pants.

The newlywed husband was reportedly found unconscious and bleeding uncontrollably. He was rushed to the UPMC Mercy Hospital, but the victim had suffered severe head trauma and was in critical condition.

The police, on the other hand, have already made an arrest. They detained a 26-year-old man, Heiko Calhoun, who was reportedly homeless and on parole which he violated after attacking Larry.

Calhoun was charged with accounts of criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, robbery, and recklessly endangering another person.

The suspect's preliminary hearing is expected to take place on August 7, 2023, while he remains in jail. District Judge Nicholas C. Martini has also denied him bail as he finds him a threat to the community.

Shalawrae and her family are fighting for justice. They protested outside the hotel, demanding better security. "We want it shut down until they can ensure their customer safety because my husband is right now fighting for his life," said the distraught wife.

Shalawrae also added that she saw another guest get attacked outside the building. Since the incident, the hotel now keeps the doors locked all day instead of only keeping them shut at night.

The wife said Larry woke up for the first time on Wednesday. Although it is good news, Shalawrae said her husband still had a long way to recover.

Larry and Shalawrae Gilmore Ask for Financial Assistance

As Larry fights for his life in the hospital after surviving the brutal attack, his wife and family have set up a GoFundMe page asking people to help cover his medical bills and other expenses.

The couple shares three children, and Shalawrae is reportedly expecting their fourth. She also shared a picture of her and Larry from their wedding day, expressing how hurt she was about what had happened to him.

Shalawrae wrote, "Can't believe someone so cruel would do this to you… I'm lost for words. I'm so hurt right now…. I wanna scream, I wanna cry, but I know I gotta be strong for you." The Gilmore family has been receiving immense support, as their GoFundMe page has already raised $9726.
