Chinese-British actress Jing Lusi is known for her independence, her strong value for career success, and prioritizing genuine connections with her inner circle rather than indulging in the glamorous dating scene of the industry.

Although not much is known about the person who has captured her heart, Jing Lusi has directed her focus towards a matter of greater importance that will ultimately contribute to the betterness of the youth and Asian representation.

Embracing authenticity in her interactions with her loved ones, the actress let go of a popular societal trend: using social media. Although she once viewed social media as essential for self-promotion, that changed.

The change came after judging a writing competition in 2015, where most entries revolved around teenage pressures to conform to a perfect image presented on social media. She recalled that the prevalence of this theme showed how teenagers often grapple with depression when they can't attain the standards of beauty, happiness, and luxury portrayed online.

She realized that her social media posts wield a powerful influence, profoundly affecting the younger generation. Because of this, she felt sad or guilty. The actress said:

"I wasn't always happy, and I do not spend my life in five-star hotels or on business class flights. But that was all I was showing, and I didn't want to be part of it any longer."

The actress also noted that her realization was her "tipping point." A year after judging the writing competition, she quit using social media, including Twitter and Instagram.

Jing Lusi Imparts Lessons on Life & Career

Although Lusi has never openly discussed her romantic life or the presence of a boyfriend, she greatly enjoys learning more about life. She learned valuable life lessons from writing a book about spirituality.

She realized that a person faces a choice between love and fear every moment. Fear often acts as a barrier limiting a person's different life aspects. She highlighted that hate isn't love's opposite; instead, it's fear.

By consciously opting for love, this can change perspectives and improve lives. She also emphasizes gratitude for nurturing happiness and determining whether love or fear drives us.

In the next five to ten years, Lusi envisions becoming a storyteller and aims to transform the portrayal of Asians in entertainment. She wants to shift this narrative and have Asians as the main characters in various stories that go beyond their identities.

Lusi has been featured in diverse films across Malaysia, India's Bollywood, and the United Kingdom.

When discussing advice for Asian women in the industry, she acknowledged the evolving landscape that now prioritizes diversity and inclusion. She suggested that aspiring Asian actors should carefully consider the roles they take on.

Instead of accepting any job for experience, they should assess whether the roles align with their career goals. Lusi emphasized avoiding roles perpetuating negative stereotypes, even if it means turning down opportunities.

She also shared her thoughts on gender equality in the industry. In 2019, she said that while promoting gender equality is essential, it shouldn't result in favoring women over men to the point of compromising quality.

Positive discrimination, in her view, remains a form of discrimination. She has warned against replacing patriarchy with matriarchy, which wouldn't achieve true equality.

She stressed that merit should be the basis for hiring decisions rather than hiring out of pity or tokenism. She recounted her own experiences fighting against being hired solely due to her background, advocating for recognition based on skills and capability.

She cited the 2018 film "Crazy Rich Asians" as an example, noting that its acclaim stemmed from its excellence and quality rather than solely relying on the fact that it featured an all-Asian cast. She starred alongside notable stars such as Constance Wu, Ken Jeong, Henry Golding, and Awkwafina.
