Serena Williams is now a mother of two after welcoming her second daughter recently. Like her older sister, the newest addition to the family was also given a unique name.
Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, revealed the exciting news of the arrival of their new baby girl on August 22, 2023, on Instagram alongside a photo of the now family of four.
"[…] I'm grateful to report our house is teaming [sic] with love: a happy & healthy newborn girl and happy & healthy mama. Feeling grateful. @serenawilliams, you've now given me another incomparable gift — you're the GMOAT," the proud dad wrote.
Ohanian thanked the medical staff who cared for his beloved wife and newborn daughter, adding that he would forever cherish the moment he introduced the couple's first child, Olympia, to her little sister.
Ohanian and the tennis icon named their youngest child Adira River Ohanian and showed her off on TikTok, writing, "Welcome my beautiful angel." The name Adira means "strong," "noble," "majestic," "mighty," and "powerful" in Hebrew. In his post, the family man shared a quote that read:
"Your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea."
Williams Gives a Glimpse into the Baby's Nursery – Fans React
Williams revealed her infant child's nursery on her YouTube channel almost a week after announcing her birth. She revealed that she got an idea of what she wanted for the room after stepping into a baby clothing store called Poppedoll in the Netherlands.
The doting mother and her spouse did not know their then-unborn child's gender, so she chose neutral colors. She opted for white, gold, and maroon colors for the space and admitted she was looking for something different.

In the clip, Williams explained the nursery used to be Olympia's playroom, so it needed a lot of work, which was completed in six weeks. The space features white furniture and maroon details.
The wall was painted white with flowers and falling petals. The crib was topped with a gold crown and a giraffe in the corner with a maroon bow around its neck, matching the hot air balloons hanging from the ceiling.

"Love it. So Royal and beautifully done!" said one social media user on YouTube. Another person said in agreement, "A room fit for the royalty that she is!!"

"So pretty and unique. Love it," someone else stated with another fan echoing the same sentiments, "It's adorable! So unique!!" Meanwhile, one fan commented on the baby's name, "Love the name Adira. Nursery is obviously beautiful but also very original and unique, just like you, Serena."
The nursery features a walk-in closet with brown cabinets and the baby's clothes hanging up the rails. It is spacious enough for baskets on each side of the closet.
The white and maroon crib with two pillowcases was placed near the window, where a white chest of drawers could be seen on the other side of the room. A bench stood in the middle, right under the window.
The nursery also had a book rug filled with books placed by the window. By the doorknob, Williams had a sign that read: "Shhh...baby sleeping." On the wall is a transparent portrait with flowers inside and the writing "Victory Redefined."
Serena on Retirement & Growing Her Family
Williams retired from playing tennis following a successful career in the sport. In an August 2022 interview, she admitted that she dislikes the word "retirement," saying, "It doesn't feel like a modern word to me. I've been thinking of this as a transition."
The former Olympian stated the best description of life after tennis for her is "evolution," adding that she was evolving away from the sport and onto other important things.
Williams explained that while still playing tennis, she started a venture capital firm called Serena Ventures and that soon after, she started a family. "I want to grow that family," said the decorated tennis star.
Williams shared that it took a while for her to let go of the sport because she was reluctant to admit she had to move on from it. She even found it difficult to discuss her feelings with anyone else, including her husband or parents.
The Michigan native stated that saying it out loud made it feel more real and that whenever the topic came up, she would get uncomfortable and cry. She only talked about it with her therapist.
Williams said although many people get excited about retiring, such as other world number ones, Ashleigh Barty and Caroline Wozniacki, she never felt that way.
During the interview, the sportswoman also revealed that her eldest daughter, Olympia, always wanted to have a little sister. The loving mom said her child used to pray to Jehovah to bring her a baby sister, and was adamant she did not want a baby brother.
Being the youngest of five sisters herself, Williams described her siblings as her heroes. According to her, she never wanted to find herself in a position where she had to choose between playing tennis and her family.
"I don't think it's fair," she said, adding if she were a man, she would still be playing and winning while the wife "was doing the physical labor of expanding our family."
Williams further stated she would be more like football star Tom Brady if she had that opportunity. However, she noted that she loves being a woman and relished being pregnant with Olympia.
