Amal Clooney Confesses George Clooney Takes Her ‘Breath Away’ 8 Years after Wedding in Her Acceptance Speech

Amal Clooney was honored at the annual DVF Awards on August 31, 2023, during the 80th Venice International Film Festival in Venice, Italy. She and her actor husband, George Clooney, arrived at the venue in a boat, walking hand in hand.

The Academy Award winner and his wife dressed stylishly for the auspicious occasion, with him wearing an all-black outfit featuring a suit and an open-collared shirt.

Meanwhile, Amal donned a blush pink lace gown with a sheer overlay on the skirt from John Gallino's fall 2000 collection for Christian Dior. The DVF Leadership honoree finished her look with gold sandal heels and dangling earrings.

The organization recognized the human rights lawyer's advocacy for victims of abuses worldwide at the event hosted by fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg.

"Amal has represented high-profile political prisoners and survivors of mass atrocities," a press release read. The lawyer also has an impressive track record for making sure journalists detained unjustly worldwide are freed.

Each honoree reportedly received a grant to support the organization of their choice. Amal, also an activist, made a rare speech and teased her spouse, whom she also raved about.

Amal Says Her Husband George "Takes [Her] Breath Away'

During her acceptance speech, Amal dedicated a shout-out to her spouse who was there to support her. She jokingly called him a "rising star."

Amal also shared more about their love story, including what Venice means to them. While there for the event, she reflected on all that had occurred in their lives that brought them together.

The British-Lebanese native expressed she is fortunate to have crossed paths with the bona fide Hollywood star before declaring her love and thanking him for being a part of her life:

"I just wanted to say, you, my love, like this city, take my breath away, and you make our lives magical. It is sometimes hard to believe you exist, so thank you for being the brightest light in my life."

According to an Italian film and art critic who attended the event, Amal, 45, and George, 62, were "very affectionate with each other" during the evening.

The brunette beauty and the "Ticket to Paradise" star have been spotted enjoying the city in style on numerous occasions, dressing up in coordinated looks.

George & Amal Married in Venice

The lovebirds, who had a whirlwind romance, met in July 2013 in Lake Como, Italy. They went on their first date later that year in London, where Amal resided at the time.

During their courtship, George knew Amal was the woman for him, so he popped the question in April 2014. He reportedly proposed with a seven-carat, emerald-cut diamond ring.

The four-time Golden Globe Award winner once revealed how spontaneous he was with his proposal during a November 2020 interview. George disclosed that he and Amal never discussed marriage when they were dating and that he asked her randomly, adding she took her time in giving him a response:

"I was on my knee for, like, 20 minutes. I finally said, 'Look, I'm gonna throw my hip out.'"

Within six months, the duo walked down the aisle in a romantic ceremony on September 27, 2014, in Venice, Italy. There were reportedly more than 100 guests at their wedding.

The pair have since kept their romance low-key but have given fans a glimpse of their relationship in the past. George previously commented on parenthood and admitted becoming a dad was not on his list of priorities.

However, that all changed when Amal fell pregnant with twins in late 2016. She gave birth to the couple's kids in June 2017, and they are parents to daughter Ella and son Alexander.

Not much is known about Amal and George's lives as parents, but the mother of two once shared an update on their home life, revealing in October 2021 that her husband was teaching their children pranks.
