Musk and Grimes started their relationship in 2018. The two sparked dating rumors when they shared a flirty interaction on Twitter. But the couple made their relationship official at the Met Gala.

They said they had been seeing each other for a while but kept their relationship private. The two welcomed their first child, X Æ A-Xii, in May 2020 and had their daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl, via surrogate in December 2021.

In one interview with Vanity Fair in 2022, Grimes described their union as "fluid." That same year, the musician tweeted that she and Musk had broken up again. But said he was still her "best friend and the love of my life."

It is unknown when their former couple's third child arrived, but they were given an extraordinary name like the rest of Musk's children. The child was reportedly named, Techno Mechanicus, nicknamed Tau. The baby news surprised fans, but the pictures of Musk and Grimes had people mistaken the musician for Miley Cyrus.
