Brandi Carlile and Her Siblings Followed in Their Mother's Musical Footsteps
Brandi and her siblings Jay and Tiffany were born to young parents. Their mom, Teresa Carlile, was a hotel hostess, and their father was a prep cook. Growing up in poverty and constantly moving from place to place within Washington, their mother's singing career introduced them to music.
When Brandi reached seven years old, she was already performing. Her mother had already introduced the singer and her siblings on stage at a young age. Their mother, a country music singer, would invite Brandi and her siblings to perform with her.
Brandi and her brother, Jay, are Irish twins, a term used for siblings born within 12 months or less. In Brandi's biography, "Broken Horses," she discussed her relationship with her brother Jay, born just 11 months and 27 days after her.
Two of Jay's children, Caroline and JayJ, formed the Small Town Strings band.
In her book, Brandi described Jay as a blond with striking blue eyes, full of drama and charisma. The Grammy award-winning singer recounted how she and her brother engaged in frequent conflicts during their upbringing.
Their frequent conflicts prompted their parents to encourage Brandi to stand up for herself because he was tougher than her. Brandi's younger sister, Tiffany, was born in 1987 via c-section.
