Elijah Carlile Hit the Road with Her Family Shortly after Her Birth – Facts about Brandi Carlile's Daughter

Elijah Carlile wasn't even 30 days old before she joined her famous mom on the road for the first time. And although her conception was a difficult journey for both her parents, the five-year-old has already filled her family's lives with so much joy.

Brandi Carlile and her wife welcomed Elijah Carlile on March 18, 2018, following the birth of their eldest daughter. In her book, "Broken Horses," the singer revealed that Elijah Carlile was born a month after the release of the hit album "By the Way, I Forgive You," and was barely a month old when she joined her family on tour.

Despite having a busy and famous mom, Elijah Carlile has grown up in a close-knit family. Her moms often share glimpses of her on social media, and they have spoken about what parenthood is like for a same-sex couple.

Elijah Carlile Was Conceived through Artificial Insemination

After opting for IVF to conceive their first daughter, Brandi and her wife, Catherine Shepherd, chose to go the artificial insemination route when trying for a second child, following Catherine's struggles with the hormones from IVF.

Nine months later, with the help of Brandi's childhood friend David, who donated sperm for both of the singer's daughters, Brandi and Catherine's family grew from three to four. Brandi said:

"Elijah was such an easy baby. She came out with a full head of black hair and went silent every time she heard my voice."

Elijah Carlile Has Brought Joy into Her Family's Lives

In honor of her fifth birthday in March 2023, Elijah's famous mom took to Instagram to commemorate the special occasion and revealed, "...you bring this family more joy and laughter than we can handle!"

In another Instagram post, fans saw more of Elijah's joyful personality as her mom documented an adorable moment of the then four-year-old trying to pronounce the word "vanilla."

Their daughter's name is commonly given to boys and dates back to the Bible's Old Testament, deriving from a Hebrew phrase meaning "Jehovah is my God."

Elijah Carlile's Parents Have Opened Up about How They Navigate Parenthood as a Same-Sex Couple

In 2021, Brandi authored an essay that shed light on what it was like for same-sex couples to become parents and revealed that she and Catherine decided to parent in a way that works for them and not pay attention to societal expectations. She added:

"The way we approach parenting now feels instinctual, even natural. We divide tasks by what feels important to us in the moment, not based on society's expectations of moms and dads."

Although the musician admitted to feeling guilty about the amount of time she spends on the road, she makes up for it by spending as much time as possible with her children when she can.

During an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres' "The Ellen Show," Brandi shared that the family of four chose a "Legend of Zelda" theme for Halloween in 2021. And to make up for lost time, Elijah and her family also bonded while fishing and camping near the Canadian border during summer.
