While speaking with "TODAY" anchor Savannah Guthrie, Brad took a moment to send a message to his mom, noting she was a regular viewer of the morning show.
"I gotta say hi to my mom because she watches you every morning," he told Savannah. “To Jane Pitt. Love you, Mom,” he added, waving and blowing a kiss. The clip was later shared by "TODAY" on their YouTube channel.
Brad's on-air tribute struck a chord with viewers, many of whom shared their reactions online. "Heartwarming. Thank you Brad for sharing this," one fan wrote. Another added, "I love that at his age, he still gets excited about making his mom smile. So cute."
Others reflected on his long-standing bond with Jane. "Such a momma's boy," one comment read, while another recalled, "Brad loves his momma. I remember when he used to bring here as his date on the red carpet [sic]."

Following the news of Jane's passing, Brad's niece, Sydney, shared a deeply personal tribute to her "sweet Grammy, Jane Etta."
"We were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier," Sydney lamented.
She remembered Jane as someone who loved without hesitation, and who taught her how to paint, how to lead with kindness, and how to find joy in life's simplest moments.
Jane also passed on her faith, her strength, and her playful spirit. Among the fondest memories were the annual "special day" traditions — one-on-one days Jane spent with each of her 14 grandchildren. For Sydney, that meant banana splits for breakfast, crafts, board games, roller coasters, and late-night movies.
"She could keep up with all 14 of us grandkids without missing a beat. There was no limit to the love she gave, and everyone who met her felt it," Sidney continued. "She was love in its purest form."

Jane passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, in Springfield, Missouri. She was 84. Her death came just six days before what would have been her 63rd wedding anniversary and one week before her 85th birthday.
Jane was born on August 13, 1940, in Memphis, Tennessee, and spent her childhood in Joplin alongside her siblings, Sam and Ruthie. She later enrolled at Oklahoma Baptist University, where a chance meeting in the campus library led to a lifelong partnership with William Alvin “Bill” Pitt. The two married on August 11, 1962, beginning a marriage that would span more than six decades.

After living in Oklahoma and St. Louis, the couple settled in Springfield, Missouri, where they raised their three children: Brad, Doug, and Julie. Jane began her career as an elementary school teacher and later re-entered the education field through the Springfield Public School System.
As one of the original educators in the Parents as Teachers program, she supported families with young children, offering guidance during key developmental stages. She also volunteered for many years at the Pregnancy Care Center in Springfield.

Outside the classroom, Jane was an accomplished painter. Her love for art became a special connection with her grandchildren, many of whom shared time with her in creative sessions they now cherish.
Her compassion extended far beyond family. Jane formed a strong bond with the community of Korah in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where three of her grandchildren were born. Her visits and involvement inspired continued support from the family, led by her granddaughters.

Jane is survived by her husband, Bill Pitt, and their children and grandchildren. Her legacy, shaped by education, faith, service, and art, lives on through each of them.
More than a decade ago, Brad Pitt offered a rare glimpse into his relationship with his mother — words that now carry added weight.

In a 2012 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he expressed frustration over how she was portrayed publicly, "She's very, very loving — very open, genuine, and it’s hilarious because she always gets painted in the tabloids as a she-devil. There's not an ounce of malice in her. She wants everyone to be happy."
In the wake of her passing, those remarks stand as a quiet reflection of the woman celebrated by her family — one defined not by fame, but by warmth, generosity, and the steady presence she offered through the years.
