On December 17, 2022, Shepard shared an Instagram post showing a tabloid cover that listed him as one of "Hollywood's Most Henpecked Husbands" alongside Ben Affleck and Keith Urban. The tabloid claimed that Bell prohibited him from spending time with his friends.
It also suggested that Affleck is treated like an assistant by his wife, Jennifer Lopez, while Urban's wife, Nicole Kidman, requires him to call home by 10 p.m. Shepard shared the picture of this tabloid cover and mocked it in the captions.

He hilariously claimed that he, Affleck, and Urban were starring in the movie "Henpecked," adding, "SO exciting. Have not read the script yet, but apparently, it's already been shot." Shepard ended the post by saying he couldn't wait to see the movie.

Fans came out in large numbers on the comment section to bash the tabloid headline and support Shepard as well as Urban and Affleck. A fan said it was unfortunate that "people think [it's] an insult to say that a man respects his wife." Another fan said the three men should take the headline as a compliment:
"I think it's disheartening that our society needs to attack committed relationships. A committed man is seen as a weak man? (...) They are being singled out for being in committed relationships. #cantmesswithhappiness."

Shepard and Bell haven't ceased to publicly display their romance, sharing sweet messages online. On July 18, 2023, the actor shared gorgeous pictures hanging out with his wife as he wished her a happy birthday.
The "Buddy Games" actor called his wife "the world's hottest jujitsu practitioner" and "the greatest mom, wife, sister, and dog owner that this world has ever known." He added that everyone lucky to be in Bell's circle "hit the Jackpot." Bell commented on Shepard's post and said she was grateful to be spending all her years with him.
The actress said she proposed to Shepard because gay marriages had just been legally approved.

Bell and Shepard started dating in 2007 and their relationship quickly progressed. However, the progress was halted because the road to marriage was a bit challenging, as the two were not quite ready to settle down yet.

Bell and Shepard Worked Hard for Their Happily Ever After
Bell and Shepard met at a birthday dinner of a mutual friend, Shauna Robertson, in 2007. The dinner was held at a sushi restaurant, with close to 10 friends of the celebrant, including Bell and Shepard. The couple had just gotten out of long-term relationships when they met.

The actress said the only thing she remembers about the night was that Shepard talked too much. After the dinner, Bell and Shepard left. "There were no sparks whatsoever," Bell admitted. Two weeks later, the pair, both Michigan natives, met at a Detroit Red Wings hockey game.
They spoke about their home state and started flirting. A day later, Bell got a message that read, "I violated your privacy and got your number from Shauna. How do you feel about that?" The message was from Shepard. Bell loved how bold Shepard was, and she just knew this was her kind of person.
She added that the actor's joke made her feel "butterflies." The two started dating, and the actress admitted she was smitten by Shepard. She confessed that she fell in love with him way before he fell in love with her.
Bell and Shepard hit it off, but their relationship faced a challenge just three months into dating. The actress already knew she was in love with Shepard and was in the relationship for the long term. However, Shepard was unsure as he was still dating other people.
Shepard sat down with Bell and told her he couldn't be in the relationship for the long term and exclusively. He said Bell was wonderful, but he was still seeing other people. The actress respected his choice, believing he made a mistake, and they broke up.
Four days later, Shepard came running back. He called Bell and admitted that he had made a mistake. He claimed that he wasn't thinking clearly. The actor revealed that it had just dawned on him that the other person he was dating wasn't as interesting as Bell.
In late 2009, Shepard proposed to Bell, but the two waited until February 1, 2010, to announce their engagement. They made the announcement on the Grammys red carpet, where the actress showed off her three-carat, emerald-cut diamond ring.
In 2013, Bell proposed to Shepard on X (formerly Twitter), and he said yes. The actress said she proposed because gay marriages had just been legally approved. The two had waited to get married because half of their friends were gay, and they didn't think it was appropriate for them to tie the knot until their gay friends could, too. On October 17, 2013, Shepard and Bell got married.
In 2019, after spending close to 12 years together, Bell and Shepard admitted that their relationship has had its ups and downs. The two had to work really hard for their happy ending because they were pretty much opposites of each other. They eventually found their footing and have built an incredible life and family together.
