Chevy Chase Turns 80 — Actor Lives with Wife Who Hurt Him before Becoming Mom to Their 3 Daughters
Chevy Chase just turned 80! He has been married to his wife, Jayni, for over four decades. The comedian credited his wife for helping him overcome addiction. Now, he's a doting father and has not lost his comedic touch after these many years.
Chevy Chase just turned 80! His daughters commemorated the milestone birthday with special Instagram posts. One of his daughters, Emily Chase, expressed how proud she was of her father's full life.
She revealed that he started his career as a taxi driver in New York and ended up hosting the Oscars a few times. Emily ended her message by expressing her love for her "BFF."
His daughter Caley also shared a sweet picture of her hugging her father. She expressed how much she loved him and ended with the words, "The Greatest Dad Ever!!!!"
Chase is known as one of the founding casts of Saturday Night Live (SNL). He became famous as the host of the parody news show "Weekend Updates" and often opened each fake news report with the line, "I'm Chevy Chase, and you're not." When the comedian left the show in 1976, it shocked many fans.
But his talent was evident from the get-go. When he joined the SNL team as a writer, one of the show's producers, Lorne Michaels, said he knew the comedian would be an important piece of the show's puzzle, "Chevy was one of the funniest people I’d ever seen," the producer said.
There had been rumors about him leaving SNL to pursue a more lucrative career in film, but Chase cleared the air and said he left for a girl he loved. "I was very much in love with a girl who would not leave California," he confessed.
Chase had a long career as a host, writer, and comedian, but while managing his busy profession, he had a few ups and downs in his love life. The actor was married twice before getting into his third marriage with Jayni Chase.
The couple met in 1981 when Chase was working on the film " Under the Rainbow," where Jayni worked as a production coordinator. Chase tried to flirt with her and get her to go out with him, but Jayni did not take him seriously.
One day, she made a mean remark and realized she had hurt his feelings. The vulnerability that he expressed changed Jayni's mind about him. "Oh, I think there's a nice guy there. And there is," she recalled.
Chevy Chase and Jayni’s Life Together
Chase and Jayni dated for two years before they got married in June 1982 in Los Angeles. They welcomed three daughters, Cydney, Caley, and Emily. Chase was already a dad to son Bryan Perkins from a previous relationship.
Although the two have been together for decades, life has not always been easy. Chase admitted that when he met his wife, he struggled with alcohol abuse. But Jayni was there to help him overcome his addiction.
Through her dedication and influence, Chase can proudly say he is living a clean life. He also lost 40 pounds after becoming sober. Another reason behind his clean life was the arrival of his and Jayni's firstborn, Cydney.
The comedian admitted how nervous he was to be a father. At first, the couple was told they were expecting a boy, but out came a girl. "I was in love immediately," gushed Chase.
The proud father enjoyed every step of being a girl dad. He even said he would gladly skip watching basketball to take his daughter on walks. Fast forward many years later, Chase walked his eldest daughter down the aisle.
The day was not only special because he got to see his daughter begin a new life with her partner, but he had the revelation to get back to hosting. Chase found himself letting go of all the negativity of believing he was too old and annoying to get back on TV.
Now that his children are all adults, Chase and his wife enjoy their empty nest with their four dogs. The couple also have two cats and love to show them off on their social media platforms.
