Katie Holmes is a single mother who has been living in an apartment with her daughter since her divorce from Tom Cruise. The former couple's marriage ended on bad terms, so much so that the "Mission Impossible" star has been absent in their child's life.
Katie and Tom welcomed their only child together, daughter Suri Cruise, in April 2006. The pair walked down the aisle months later, in November of that year.

However, after nearly seven years of marriage, the actress filed for divorce from the actor in June 2012. The former Hollywood couple's divorce was finalized in 2013.
Katie reportedly ended her marriage because she feared raising her daughter as a Scientologist – a religion that Tom has shown dedication to throughout the years.

The doting mom's decision to leave the institution and end her union caused a significant rift between her and the movie-action star. This has also led to Tom distancing himself from the pair's daughter over the years.
Reports revealed that Katie had secretly rented a two-bedroom apartment in the Chelsea Mercantile building two weeks before she filed for divorce from the "Top Gun: Maverick" star.

As the lease agreement period was about to end, she reportedly began to plan a move from the $12,500-a-month apartment that she and her daughter had called home since the split.
At the time, the "Dawson's Creek" alum was looking to purchase her own lofty apartment in Manhattan. According to sources during that period, Katie wanted to be a homeowner to put down firm roots for her daughter.

Suri is now all grown up, and a source revealed that the teenager was applying for colleges earlier this year with the assistance of her loving mother. The insider also disclosed that her famous father would not be a part of the process because he "has no part" in her life. But the three-time Golden Globe Award winner will pay for his daughter's college tuition.
Tom has been paying child support through the years and agreed to pay his ex-wife $400,000 annually until their child turns 18. A source revealed that although he has been estranged from his daughter since 2013, he has not neglected his responsibilities in terms of financial obligations.
Suri, 17, wants to study fashion in New York City. An insider explained her famous mom wants her to remain in the Big Apple so that they can be close to each other. Katie is "extremely overprotective" of her child and is "overwhelmed" by the idea of her leaving the nest, said the source.
Inside Katie & Suri's Home Life
In a 2017 interview, Katie candidly talked about motherhood and her love for her daughter. She said Suri is "the most important person to me," adding:
"It's very important that I'm present and she has a stable, innocent childhood. I feel blessed to do what I do, but there's nothing in the world better than watching your child succeed."

Aside from success, Katie once shared she enjoys spending time with Suri in the kitchen, especially in the mornings. When the youngster was ten years old, her mom divulged she prepared breakfast for her just before she went to school.
As for dinner time, the brunette beauty said she sticks to their favorite meals, "pasta and lasagna." When Suri was six years old, she and her parent used to go to the park at odd hours because of her highly publicized split from her dad. Katie revealed in a July 2022 interview:
"We'd go to the park at 6 a.m. just to get outside."
Still, Katie has not allowed Tom's decision not to see their child affect her upbringing, said a source. The insider stated being raised by a single parent shaped Suri into who she is.
The teen adores her mom unconditionally and has been described as "smart." She is turning into "an intelligent mature," individual who knows where she comes from.
