‘I Cried and Cried’: Reese Witherspoon Felt like a Broken ‘Robot’ a Year Ago

Reese Witherspoon felt broken after her marriage to Jim Toth spiraled. A year ago, as she faced several challenges, the actress cried endlessly. Now, she has taken steps to care for herself and allow others to help her.

The past year has been challenging for Reese Witherspoon. To cope with her problems, the actress filled her schedule with work so she didn't have to deal with her emotions alone.

She soon realized that keeping herself preoccupied could only do so much. She acknowledged she needed to care for herself:

"I was like 'I was a robot and the robot broke.' I cried and cried."

Witherspoon reached out to her friend, fellow celebrity Tracee Ellis Ross, to help her process her sudden realization. She's learned to see each failure as a learning experience and is now intentional about caring for herself.

"It actually makes me feel very vulnerable sharing that with y'all, but I think it's important," the emotional actress said. She acknowledged she needed help and accepted the challenge.

The "Legally Blonde" actress announced her separation from her husband, Jim Toth, in March. They shared a joint statement announcing their separation only days before their 12th wedding anniversary.

Through their statement, Toth and Witherspoon assured fans that their decision to separate came from a good place. They both hoped to move forward with love, kindness, and respect for each other and the family they had built.

Witherspoon and her ex-husband share a son named Tennessee, 11. The actress is also mom to kids Ava, 24, and Deacon, 19, whom she shares with ex-husband Ryan Philippe.

Four months after announcing their separation, the court finalized their divorce in August 2023. It included a marital dissolution agreement and a custody agreement for their 11-year-old son.

The couple, whose divorce proceedings did not make negative headlines, reportedly signed a prenup. They had met at a friend's house, announced their engagement in December 2010, and married in March 2011.
