’Y&R’s Christian LeBlanc Reveals Private Cancer Battle & Dramatic Weight Loss
Christian LeBlanc admitted that his absence on "The Young and The Restless" last year was due to his private battle with cancer. He is in remission and doing much better despite his dramatic weight loss.
On "The Young & The Restless," Christian LeBlanc's character Michael Baldwin suffered a cancer scare on the show. In real life, that turned out to be true for the actor.
In a recent interview, LeBlanc revealed he's in remission after being diagnosed with multiple myeloma. It's a fast cancer, but it was also easy to spot.
While filming "The Young and The Restless," LeBlanc had several signs that urged him to get a checkup. He suffered from nosebleeds, one of his eyes felt wonky, and he discovered a tumor in his sinus cavity after a visit to the hospital.
He also started losing weight, which affected his wardrobe on the show. Whenever he tried to wear his character's wedding ring, it would slip out of his finger despite being the correct size.
It all happened so fast for LeBlanc, and the next thing he knew, he was at the hospital for chemotherapy and constructive immunotherapy. He refused to tell the public about his illness and fought it privately.
Before being diagnosed, the actor admitted that he'd never been admitted to the hospital in his 65 years. It was a lot to take in, and he handled it before attending to other things.
Knowing how difficult it is to be diagnosed with cancer, LeBlanc made his support known to cancer organizations, especially The Little Big Cup, which usually does fundraisers for the Cancer Support Community.
Rather than focusing on cancer research, the organization focuses on helping cancer patients mentally deal with the diagnosis. Since 2022, fans have wondered where LeBlanc was. He wasn't on "The Young and The Restless," and his absence was easy to spot.
However, fans noticed something was up before he quietly took a break from the show. LeBlanc shared that his fans noticed something was wrong, especially with his eyes, as one of them was compared to Jim Carrey's. He said:
"[...] but the fans caught it. I was getting people like the eye is a little Jim Carrey that way [sic]."
For years, LeBlanc has had to assure fans that he's doing good. Now better than ever, he's ready to get back on the screen as Michael Baldwin, and there's no stopping him this time.
The actor is forever grateful for the support the "Young and The Restless" fans have shown him. He feels he owes it to them to do well in his craft and continue doing so for as long as he can.
