In February 2014, the Jason Taylor Foundation held a gala dinner and charity auction. The event was emceed by former NFL player Jason Taylor's younger sister, Joy Taylor. Also among the numerous guests in attendance was former MLB star Richard Giannotti.

Joy and Richard posed for photos, as did many others, and it was among the first few times the pair were seen together. It's unknown when their romance began, but they took it to the next level the following year.

That August, Richard joked about Joy always asking for a particular "ugly" breed of cats. "Every day @joytaylortalks asks for these ugly cats. I'm not a cat guy. I'm also not an alien guy either," he wrote. "Yasssssss," Joy responded in the comment section.

Though it remains unclear when Joy and Richard got together, Richard has been friends with his ex-wife's brother for some time — Jason has consistently appeared on Richard's socials. Later, in November 2015, he and Joy made another public appearance, likely their last as a couple, at an Audi Opening.
