‘Is That Him?’: Barbra Streisand Unravels Her First Date Moment with Future Husband James Brolin
Barbra Streisand looks back at her first date with her husband, James Brolin, in a new interview with Stephen Colbert. The lovebirds have been together for 25 years and are still going strong.
Before Barbra Streisand met the love of her life, James Brolin, she was first married to Elliott Gould from 1963 to 1971 and share a son named Jason.
Years later, a friend decided to set her up on a blind date. With nothing to lose, Streisand agreed and had the most hilarious thing to say upon seeing Brolin on their first date.
Brolin came to their first date sporting a buzz cut with slight dye on it. "Is that him? Where is the hair?" she thought to herself.
Bluntly, Streisand asked him about his choice of hairstyle but ultimately didn't mind. They spent hours talking to each other that night, beginning their love story.
By the time the night ended, Brolin told Streisand he was taking her home. It took her completely off guard, especially since she hadn't been in a car with a man for several years.
"I was a nervous wreck," she admitted. She started thinking about different scenarios: "What if I get sick to my stomach? What if I have to throw up or something?"
Brolin recalled the night differently. While he remembered Streisand asking about his hair early on, she actually disappeared for about an hour before they finally got things going.
Ultimately, things worked out well for Streisand and Brolin. They dated for two years before deciding to get married. Now, they've been happily married for 25 years.
Streisand revealed that the secret to her healthy marriage is to "listen carefully." She hears her spouse and agrees to disagree.
Despite the blossoming love life between Streisand and Brolin, the international superstar admitted she hadn't had much fun in life when she was younger. Now that she's enjoying retirement with her husband, Streisand decided to cap off her career with a memoir.
