Initially, authorities remained uncertain about injuries resulting from the crash and refrained from providing information on potential casualties. As the investigation continues, additional details have slowly started to emerge.
What Did Witnesses See?
The harrowing incident was documented in videos that depicted the aircraft engulfed in fire near a shopping center in Plano. According to the FAA, the Mooney M20 crashed in close proximity to Mama's Daughter's Diner and Nail Addiction at approximately 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

A video captured by witness Corban Garcia showcased a small plane ablaze in a parking lot outside a strip mall situated at 6509 W. Park Blvd. Additionally, the footage depicted at least one other vehicle appearing to be on fire. The clip further documented first responders grappling with the fire surrounding the plane's smoke-blackened frame, positioned just a few feet from a line of shops.
Garcia recounted hearing an explosion on the night of November 21 as he was leaving his workplace across the street from the shopping center. "I looked up to the left and saw a huge plume of smoke," he said. "Honestly, at first I thought it was a car fire until I saw the tail of the airplane. Then I was shocked."

At the time of the plane crash, many nearby stores were still open. Witnesses recounted hearing a loud boom and witnessing substantial smoke following the tragic incident. Kiu Nguyen, one of the witnesses, remembered stepping outside to a scene filled with smoke, and later, a disturbing noise echoed through the air, evoking a sense of fear.

Kevin Holigan, who was about to enter Mama's Daughter's Diner when the crash occurred, detailed the towering flames that obscured his vision. He noted that the intensity of the fire made it challenging to discern anything beyond the initial blaze and the adjacent car engulfed in flames.
Another witness, Austin Selkin, revealed that he saw "flames everywhere" and the scene in his surroundings was "really bad." He also recorded a video that showed firefighters extinguishing the thick flames engulfing a nearby vehicle
What Do Authorities Say?
Authorities confirmed that the pilot, who lost his life during the fiery crash, was the sole occupant of the single-engine plane. The identity of the victim remains undisclosed. Plano Fire-Rescue Public Information Officer Daniel Daly mentioned that the aircraft did not actually land on or collide with anything. Emergency crews swiftly responded to the crash site, situated less than half a mile from the Air Park-Dallas Airport.
The fatal plane crash also ignited an unoccupied van nearby, although none of the adjacent businesses suffered any damage. Daly stated they did not know where the aircraft was destined, whether it was going to the nearby landing strip or Addison. He added that they didn't have that information at the moment, and any flight plans or information would be with the FAA or NTSB.
Plano Fire-Rescue refrained from speculating about the plane's flight path, and it remains unclear whether the pilot was arriving or departing from the Air Park-Dallas Airport.
Authorities mentioned that investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board would arrive at the scene later to collaborate with the FAA. Meanwhile, the plane will reportedly remain at the location until federal investigators decide to relocate it to a secure location for further examination.
