In May, Shannon opened up about her oldest daughter's battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Cardwell received her stage 4 adrenal carcinoma diagnosis in January. Shannon and her husband, Justin Stroud, revealed that Cardwell had undergone a second round of chemotherapy to cure the disease.

According to Shannon, her daughter received the heart-shattering diagnosis following an initial ordeal in August 2022 when she went to the hospital with back pain. Despite the removal of a cyst, the cancer quickly spread to her liver, spleen, and lungs.

In another exclusive interview, Shannon discussed how Cardwell's health crisis had brought the family closer together. The interview delved into the family matriarch's complicated relationship with her daughters, highlighting the tumultuous past and the challenges they faced.

Over the years, the family dynamic had changed significantly, marked by drama, Shannon's struggles with addiction, and custody issues. Despite the complexities, Shannon shared that their relationship was a work in progress, emphasizing the distance between them since their move a few hours away.

In 2022, she explained that her grown daughters had their own families, and the healing process was ongoing. However, in January 2023, Cardwell's diagnosis changed the family dynamics. She moved into Shannon and Stroud's home in Alabama, where they, along with Cardwell's sisters and then-boyfriend Eldridge Toney, supported her during the challenging times.

Shannon acknowledged that despite the diagnosis bringing the family even closer, they had been working on their issues long before learning about Cardwell's health crisis. Even amid the hardships, Shannon expressed confidence that their family would endure, just as they had overcome challenges in the past.

Cardwell leaves behind her husband, Toney, whom she reportedly married in a private ceremony in March, and her two daughters, Kaitlyn and Kylee, from her first marriage to Michael Cardwell.
