In the second post she made to her Instagram Story, Spelling explained the incident that prompted Liam needing the surgery in the first place. According to the mom of five, "Liam fell down the stairs at home and has been in pain and immobile since. 6 weeks + no healing...and Liam's navicular accessory fractured bone in right foot needed to be removed and then tendon reattached to his main bone with a metal hook rod."

She also thanked the many people who have been reaching out with well wishes and supportive messages as Liam recovers, on both her behalf and his.

The "Beverly Hills, 90210" star also previously shared the adversities Liam has faced, which affected his physiological health. In a lengthy caption, Spelling divulged that her son, like her daughter, Stella McDermott, has been a constant target of severe bullying at school.

Upon graduating from Encino in 2019, Liam's principal called him lazy and unmotivated. This affected him to the point where he believed he was incompetent despite this not being the case.

To add insult to injury, when the 16-year-old started middle school, he was severely bullied to the point where he developed hectic headaches and stomach aches from emotional distress. Eventually, receiving no help from the school, Liam had to leave.
