Alyssa Milano Allegedly Had a Hand in Shannen Doherty's Firing While She Needed Money for Her Sick Dad
Hollywood actress Alyssa Milano allegedly had a hand in the firing of former "Charmed" co-star Shannen Doherty from the show. Doherty, who is now battling stage 4 cancer, was dismissed from the series at a time when she needed money to care for her "extremely sick" dad in the 2000s. The "Beverly Hills, 90210" star said she has no desire to "keep telling a lie" about her departure.

It has been recently revealed that Hollywood star Alyssa Milano, 51, allegedly had a hand in getting her "Charmed" co-star Shannen Doherty, 52, fired from the hit show. Yesterday, the 52-year-old released a podcast episode in which she spoke about how her departure from the series came to be.

Doherty, who is battling stage four cancer, started by addressing a question she says she gets asked frequently: why did she quit "Charmed"? The "Beverly Hills, 90210" star made it very clear that her leaving the show was not a decision she had any control over.

Far from being the one to quit on her own accord, Doherty said the narrative of her quitting was assigned to her by external forces. Before explaining what happened, Doherty stated, "Now, at my age and dealing with stage four cancer, I just don't feel like I have to keep telling a lie. I feel like it's ok to be honest..."

The actress explained that her exit from the show was difficult because she loved being a part of "Charmed" and enjoyed working with the people on the show. However, most importantly, she relied on her earnings from the series to take care of her father, who she said was "extremely sick and had a lot of medical needs."

Fellow "Charmed" co-star Holly Marie Combs, who made up the third part of the Halliwell sister trio on the show, joined Doherty to discuss the matter. Regarding Doherty's departure from the show, Combs was a strong advocate for not wanting her to leave. When she discussed her exit with the higher-ups of the series, specifically Jonathan Levine, she made it clear she was unwilling to do the show without Doherty.

During the conversation, Levine informed Combs that although they didn't want Doherty to leave, their hands were tied. Reportedly, Combs was told, "We're basically in a position where it's one or the other...and Alyssa has threatened to sue us for a hostile workplace environment."

Allegedly, Milano had gone to the onset mediator to build a case for herself where she documented every instance where she felt uncomfortable on the show's set. This reportedly happened despite Combs' confirmation that there were no harsh words exchanged or fights breaking out while filming, and any conflict was worked on behind the scenes.
Although Doherty and Milano clearly had some tension with each other during "Charmed," the "Who's the Boss" star said that the two are now cordial. While speaking to a pop culture outlet in 2021, Milano said, "You know, I could take responsibility for a lot of our tension that we had."

She explained that the tension was rooted in the view that everything was a competition instead of being rooted in sisterhood and camaraderie. Milano also admitted to having some guilt over what happened between her and Doherty in the past.
