Hailie Jade had a challenging childhood living in an unsafe neighborhood with her parents growing up. However, she is now a grown-up, living in a posh house, unlike her childhood home.

Hailie Jade Mathers is a renowned rapper's middle child. She has a younger sister named Stevie Mathers and an older sister named Alaina Mathers, and she did not follow her father into the music industry.

Hailie was born on December 25, 1995, to Kim Scott and Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers. Her parents married twice, from 1999 to 2001 and 2006 to 2006.

In a TikTok video, Hailie explained that she and her friends often mark the occasion a few weeks before Christmas Day to celebrate her birthday. In 2023, she and her pals had a brunch on a Sunday and watched the Lions play.

Hailie comes from humble beginnings. Growing up, her parents barely made ends meet as her dad was still a struggling artist. Eminem and Kim were still dating then and lived with their infant daughter in crack-infested neighborhoods.

The family's living arrangements were so dire that a stray bullet once flew through their kitchen window and lodged in a wall while the new mom was doing the dishes. In an April 1999 interview, Kim admitted the neighborhoods she and Eminem lived in were poor.

"I went through four TVs and five VCRs in two years," said the mother of three. Kim and Eminem were even once robbed of everything except for their beds and couches by a man who had come into their home previously to eat their food and make a mess.

Hailie grew up with a father who had an addiction, too. In a May 2009 interview, the doting father of three revealed how bad his addiction was to drugs, saying:

"I was the worst kind of addict, a functioning addict. I was so deep into my addiction at one point that I couldn't picture myself being able to do anything without some kind of drug."

The mother of his kids also struggled with substance abuse and even managed to avoid being sent to jail in November 2016. Kim was arrested for drunk driving and was sentenced to one-year probation with a $900 fine.

Hailie's father mainly raised her. In her podcast, "Just a Little Shady," in July 2022, she revealed that she was raised with good morals and values and avoided being in the wrong at all costs.

She recalled being at a football game once, and a friend of hers, who had been drinking, talked to her face, and she could smell the alcohol. At that moment, she wanted to go home right away, thinking that because she was around people who were drinking, she would be in trouble.

While growing up, Hailie's mom had run-ins with the police. She was in and out of jail, was placed on house arrest, and was on the run from law enforcement several times. In a November 2004 interview, her father expressed:

"Tryin' to explain that to my niece and my daughter was one of the hardest things I ever had to go through."

Eminem eventually told the couple's daughter that her mother had a problem and was sick, adding that until she got better, he would be there for her as a father. Dubbed as one of the greatest rappers ever, the Missouri native even gave up his career to support his family.

His manager, Mike Mazur, revealed in a July 2000 interview that the superstar cut down his work hours six months after Hailie was born, working 60 hours a week. Mazur explained:

"He didn't want his daughter to grow up like he did, living from day to day and moving from week to week."

When asked during an interview about goals and principles as a parent, Eminem said they involve taking the children to school, picking them up, and teaching them to live by the rules. "I'm not saying I'm the perfect father, but the most important thing is to be there for my kids and raise them the right way," the doting dad expressed.

Asked about his biggest rules as a parent, Eminem divulged that it is teaching his daughters right from wrong, setting rules, boundaries, and guidelines while being calm. He avoided giving them a hiding growing up to make them aware that it is wrong for a man to lay his hands on a female.

Most of all, the rapper noted he was teaching his kids to learn from his mistakes while referring to the ups and downs he experienced with their mom, something he has sung about in his songs.

Hailie has also been in her famous dad's songs, including "My Dad's Gone Crazy," a title he came up with after she shouted, "Somebody, please help me! I think my dad's gone crazy" at the studio with him while he was working with Dre.

Eminem revealed that Hailie loves his song "Mockingbird," which he dedicated to her and her sister Alaina. It was when their mother was on the run, and they had no idea what was happening, so he used the lyrics to explain things to them.

Despite all that she was exposed to growing up, Hailie grew up in a straight and narrow way. She was shy as a child and was focused on school as a second grader in elementary school. She is included in the Chippewa Valley High School list with the highest honors, including the Academic Excellence and Department of Psychology awards.

Hailie was crowned Homecoming Queen of Chippewa Valley High School during a Clinton Township, Michigan football game in October 2013. Her peers described her as a "smart, athletic, and caring young woman." Hailie's dad watched the coronation from afar because he wanted her to be the main focus.
