My MIL Started Sending My Husband Polaroids of Herself but Then I Found Her Real Intentions
A woman shared a bizarre story of discovering the alarming hidden messages and intentions behind her mother-in-law's "creepy" behavior. She later realized that her husband saved her from a situation that could have ended with significant conflict.
A TikToker was puzzled by her mother-in-law's unsettling behavior, which was revealed through numerous Polaroid pictures she sent to her son. Commenters also began to speculate about the reasons behind these photographs.
The TikToker, known as @stasiasvcks, started her video with the statement, "Well, I finally figured out why my mother-in-law wanted to be called Mimi so bad." Her husband had moved to Los Angeles a few years back, but she believed her mother-in-law (MIL) might have been going through some sort of crisis when she started sending her son Polaroid pictures of herself every month, and sometimes even more frequently.

However, her husband, who was in his 20s at the time, found it odd and somewhat disturbing to have pictures of his mother, especially of her in her bedroom laid out in his apartment, so he stored them in the garage. Each photo came with a message, ranging from "I love you, honey," "I love you deep in my soul," to "I miss you."

Surprisingly, the TikToker's husband has no recollection of these events. "My husband spent the majority of his twenties blacked out," she revealed. One day, the TikToker was looking for Christmas decorations in the garage when she stumbled across the pictures and decided to burn them.

While burning them, she noticed a message on the back of one photo. The mother-in-law had signed it "Love, Mimi," referring to her son. It finally made sense why she wanted the TikToker's child to call her "Mimi."
After the TikToker gave birth, the mother-in-law thought the best gift would be a plaque explaining the meaning of "Mimi." The gift was available on Esty and was easily customizable, but the woman described it as "a starter pack of what was effectively a worship shrine."
The gift left the woman bewildered and full of questions about its significance. She inquired why her husband ultimately cut ties with his mother, clarifying that it was unrelated to her.

However, she discovered that the mother-in-law had been speaking ill of her behind her back, telling her son that if their marriage failed, she would hire the best lawyer to ensure the TikToker lost parental rights because she had struggled with postpartum depression.
The mother-in-law proposed that her son and the baby could move in with her and make her a custodial guardian. After discovering all this, the TikToker appreciated that her husband had withheld this information because it could have led to a serious confrontation.

Many commenters were also disturbed by the story but commended the TikToker's husband for his protective actions and for cutting off contact with his mother. "I love that he stood up for you in your absence and cut her off without you even knowing. He protected you so much," one commenter said.

Another TikTok user speculated that the mother-in-law might have had romantic feelings for her son. Others expressed that they had their MIL also interfere with their families and try to take the kids away from them. "My ex-mill was also that way. She knew me and my ex were fighting and talked to friends about taking my daughter to help 'raise' her," shared a commenter.
Other commenters shared their stories, with one writing, "Sounds like my mother-in-law …. She gets super jealous about me being with my partner and sternly said he will ALWAYS be my son not yours." Another wrote, "brings me back to what my MIL wanted my daughters to call her and it's Tia (aunt) im like no Abulea (Grandma )like it or not."

One TikTok user who also had a MIL who was overprotective of her son wished her husband had supported her as well, but she was left all alone. "I wish my husband would have stood up for me like yours did. Instead, he made excuses, he is now leaving me to go be mommy 'cause I won't," she reiterated.
Most importantly, netizens appreciated that the husband shielded his wife from a potentially damaging situation, and preserved the well-being of their relationship and family.
