Kevin Costner Candidly Shares How He Dealt with Highly-Publicized Divorce despite Being ‘Broken’ & ‘Bruised’

Kevin Costner candidly addressed how he managed to deal with his highly-publicized divorce amid feeling "broken" and "bruised." A few days before the star made unexpected revelations, his ex-wife's new romance with a dapper financier was confirmed. Kevin also recently attended the Cannes Film Festival where he debuted a bold new look.

In a move that is as honest and outspoken as it is unexpectedly revelatory, Hollywood star Kevin Costner recently opened up about his widely publicized divorce from Christine Baumgartner.

During an interview with GQ to discuss his grand western epic, "Horizon: An American Saga," Kevin felt it was time to "deal with" harsh realities.

Overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of both his professional and personal life, "The Bodyguard" star admitted that he is going through a lot. "So much. Very serious stuff. And those things are very important [...] I have to deal with them on a daily basis, emotionally, historically almost," Kevin divulged.

He went on to mention his desire and obligation to tend to "the immediate needs" of his children, Cayden, Hayes, and Grace Costner, whom he shares with Christine.

Instead of fusing about the other facets of his life that have been affected by his divorce, Kevin places his beloved kids as his top priority: "I'm not going to list the things—I'm going to stop right there with them. That's my job, looking at that, and dealing with that."

Although he made it clear that his focus amid dealing with his divorce is on his kids, Kevin alluded to the adverse effects his highly contentious split has had on his psyche. "I've taken big bites out of life, life's taken big ones out of me," he revealed.

However, the actor remains resolute in not allowing the situation to keep him down: "I'm not going to lose myself because I've been bruised. I have been, but I'm not going to lose myself."

Continuing to display his courageous and tenacious spirit by using the analogy of catching a white whale, Kevin added, "I can't let go of this rope no matter how much my heart's on the ground, no matter how broken I may be on a daily basis."

He also promised to make sure "Horizon" succeeds in the film industry. Kevin explained that his strength during this tough time came from not wanting to disappoint the many people involved in the project.

"I do have a level of responsibility to those guys that invested with me, to the people that believe in me, to the people [...] willing to postpone other jobs on the hint that I might work. And so it doesn't matter how much water's hitting me in the face, I can't let go of the rope that is this thing," asserted Kevin.

Acting out another analogy—this time using the floor to represent an ocean filled with "the snapping jaws of imaginary creatures" and him hanging on to a rope for dear life above them—Kevin finished, "There's eight down there that want me. And I'm going to just be a ball of fur if I hit the ground. So I'm up here. I'm as far out as I've ever been."

When Christine filed for divorce last year, sources indicated that the "Yellowstone" actor was taken aback by the action. "It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action," stated a representative for Kevin.

Since the filing and the divorce finalization, a lot has transpired in the lives of the ex-couple. While Kevin has confessed to going through a challenging time, Christine Baumgartner appears to be moving on just fine and putting her divorce behind her.

A few days before her ex-husband's candid interview came out, the handbag designer was spotted canoodling with her new beau—financier Josh Connor.

Last week, the lovebirds were seen holding hands, cuddling, and holding onto each other in photos snapped by the paparazzi. According to reports, they were out for a stroll in Southern California.

Though the pictures seemingly confirm that Christine has found love again months after her divorce was finalized in February, this was not the first instance she and Josh were seen together. The duo went on a Hawaiian vacation last July, although at the time, Christine denied that there was anything romantic going on between them.

While Kevin Costner, on the other hand, has yet to confirm whether or not he has a budding romance on the horizon, his professional life has certainly been eventful. On Sunday, he attended the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of "Horizon: An American Saga," where he received a seven-minute standing ovation.

What made the event extra special was the fact that he was joined and supported by his family, specifically, Cayden, Grace, Hayes (who features in the film), and his older children, Annie and Lily Costner.

Though the entire family was a sight to behold in their coordinating looks, what particularly caught the attention of onlookers was Kevin's new hair color and his lookalike son, Hayes Costner.

The father and son both wore white suits, but Kevin paired his attire with a button-up shirt, while Hayes opted for a gray T-shirt.

While it was pleasantly surprising to see Kevin with his son, social media users noticed something different about the "Waterworld" talent. He ditched his clean-shaven look for a mustache and changed his hair color to a reddish blonde.

While fans were certainly delighted to see Hayes and thought he looked a lot like his father, Kevin's new hair color was discussed as well. "Nice looking son. Time to stop dyeing the hair," one fan commented.

Another wondered, "OMG the hair….. Why?" One person also added, "They are so attractive, but their hairdresser doesn't love them."

Some netizens did not even recognize Kevin with his new hair color, but one commenter wished the actor would go back to his trimmed facial hair. "Please, lord, leave your natural hair!!! And trim that mustache to be a gentleman again," they expressed.

On the brighter side, other people were proud of Hayes and his father for walking the prestigious festival's red carpet. One user wrote, "How wonderful, and he is just as handsome as his dad. Let's just hope he's as good an actor; I'm sure he is!” Another added, "Good looking like his Dad!"

Apart from Hayes, the presence of Kevin's other children who joined him for photos on the carpet was also just as endearing. His daughter Lily wore a white dress with gray flower detailing and strappy heels. She left her blonde locks loose and finished off her look with red lipstick and black sunglasses. She also had a black blazer draped over her shoulders.

Annie, on the other hand, opted for a silk green one-shoulder dress with fringe embellishments. She paired the dress with white heels and had her brown hair tied in a low ponytail.

Grace chose a simple yet elegant look, wearing a light blue silk gown, while the brothers in the family matched their father, opting for classic tuxedos.
