This former "Baywatch" actress experienced intense scrutiny over her diet as she was expected to remain thin and adhere to beauty standards. These judgments haunted her for a long time until she grew into her own. Here's how she captured many hearts and evolved into the stunning beauty we know today.

The Trials and Hard Start in Life in the 90s

The star faced significant struggles, including a period of homelessness in Los Angeles. At one point, all she had was a pair of Versace shoes, no car, and no credit card. She had hidden $5,000, but her then-boyfriend found and stole it.

He gambled away the money, leaving her to count change. Since she lived in a rough neighborhood, she carried a shank in her back pocket and walked whenever she needed to use a pay phone.

Speaking about her circumstances in a previous interview, she recalled, "I was homeless in L.A., I'm not from a rich family or anything like that." She added, "I knew where I needed to be in N.Y. or L.A.. So there was a lot of struggling, and I didn't really know what I was going to do."

However, that's when she started trying out new things and finally came out of her shell. Being a trained dancer, she knew it would be a struggle to have a successful career in that field. The star felt lost and discouraged about how to jumpstart her Hollywood career.

She confessed, "I would not want to go into auditions, I'd leave and say everyone's so pretty, I can't do this, I can't memorize anything." Despite her dire circumstances, she still had her makeup case and a stunning wardrobe, so people didn't realize how bad her living situation was.

When she confided in the late artist Prince, who discovered her, he offered her a weekly dance show, Erotic City, at his Glam Slam Los Angeles club. On Fridays, the actress performed with other dancers and received a check for around $100. She confessed, "And that to me was like therapy. And we became friends, and we were cool."

During this time, as her acting career began to take off, she faced another devastating loss when her mother, Patricia Patrick, died from brain cancer. Reflecting on the loss years later, the model said, "I miss her tremendously. I mean, we were best friends, and she lived two years fighting cancer."

The death shocked her so much that she struggled to cope with it. The star noted, "It takes a very strong person to be around anyone going through an illness."

She commended her brother for being one of those "rare, beautiful people" who gave up everything to be by their mother's side and admired his strength in doing so.

Unfortunately, she felt guilty for not being as present, believing she could have done more. Tragedy struck again when her sister, Debbie, died at age 40, the same year their mother passed away.

Her sister's death was mysterious, and the model felt she died too young. Yet, her life began to turn around as her career started launching. But fame came with certain expectations about her body.

Finding and Maintaining Fame despite Being Asked to Lose Weight

After all her hardships, the actress launched her Hollywood career by starring in "Baywatch." During a 2024 interview, the star opened up about her iconic red swimsuit that she wore on the show.

She revealed that she kept the swimsuit, saying, "I just took it because at that point we all did our fittings — the new cast." The actress continued, "We did our fittings and the suits didn't come through until the very end, so we were wearing everyone else's suit that was tagged 'Everyone' would fit into."

She explained, "But I had no problem with it. I thought it was kind of cool. 'Okay, it's Yasmine [Bleeth]’s suit that's going to fit.'" Bleeth starred as Caroline Holden in 1993, four years after the show's premiere.

The celebrity, who played Lani McKenzie, only joined the main cast featuring Bleeth in 1997. By 2018, her career was thriving, with over 30 years in the industry. She had achieved significant success with five Playboy covers and numerous IMDb credits, including singing and dancing on stage, sometimes in lingerie.

The celebrity also released a successful aerobics video collection. Her courtship, engagement, and wedding to Dave Navarro were broadcast on MTV long before celebrities started making such events public.

During an August 2024 interview, the celebrity was complimented by an interviewer who said, "You look gorgeous," before asking if she always knew that. The star humbly confessed that she's very insecure but that having a Glam team helps a lot.

Reflecting on her "Baywatch" days, the actress revealed that she felt pressured to conform to beauty standards. She admitted, "I was always told I need to lose weight." The star, who studied Classical Ballet, found that the negative advice continued to haunt her as time went on.

"I would take it to heart," she explained. But, looking back, the "After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun" star noted, "I love my body, and I love that I was curvy and not straight up and down."

Although she now has self-love and more confidence in her looks, "Baywatch" bosses often told her to stop eating snacks back then. She momentarily took their advice seriously due to her professional dancer background.

The actress confessed, "It was always engraved in my mind growing up." But these days, with age, she's set in her ways and won't change her appearance.

She explained, "I love being part of this era where you can't just tell someone how they should live, who they should date, or what weight they should be." The star feels that people are coming into their own and appreciates how it is accepted.

Fans beside Themselves after Seeing Electra in Her 50s

Carmen Electra, born on April 20, 1972, in Sharonville, Ohio, was interviewed in 2023 about her looks in her 50s. The interviewer showed surprise at Electra looking pretty much the same as she did in the 1990s, jokingly asking her not to say drinking water is her secret for her looks.

The actress said, "So, it's funny you say that. My entire life, I would not drink water. I drank Coke. I wouldn't go anywhere without it so there was always a Coke falling out of my purse. But I kid you not, I gave up soda and I do think it helped."

During the interview, Electra was accompanied by Jenny McCarthy, with whom she did a SKIMS Swimwear campaign. The pair were both in their 50s when they did the shoot, and when asked if she is more or less confident posing in swimwear in her 50s, McCarthy had an interesting response.

She said, "I felt the same. I would say the only thing that changed for me is that I have more confidence in my boundaries. I can say, 'You know what? I'm done or this is no.' Before I'd be like, 'Whatever you say.' I'm a people pleaser. Now I go, 'The water's too cold, shut it off.'"

On the other hand, Electra, 52 before her birthday in 2025, had some fans taking to her Instagram video to express their admiration for her appearance.
