The 61-year-old actress channels an elderly character in her photos, with makeup and prosthetics making her unrecognizable. She sports a bald head and large, round glasses.
In one image, she reveals her torso, where additional prosthetics create a frail, aged appearance. The suit has sagging, wrinkled skin around her chest, making the character look eerily realistic.

In one full-body shot, Moore's bare legs create a stark contrast with the prosthetics, and she adds a humorous touch to the unsettling look by holding her dog close to her chest.

She took it a step further, sharing another gruesome photo that covered her face and head in fake blood. Moore shared, "Spoiler alert 🚨 Been holding onto these gems from @trythesubstance and today feels like an appropriate day to share them. Happy Halloween from Elisabeth Sparkle 🧪."
Fans quickly filled the comment section with mixed reactions. "That is haunting," wrote one follower. "I'm so disturbed by this, so wrong, must forget…. 😂" commented another. "🎃 🥹 I got scared," a third remarked.
"Omg this is amazing 😂😂 [sic]," a fan quipped, while another raved, "I still recognize you and I love your movie😍."
Others hoped the Hollywood star would be rewarded for her latest role. "You'd better get your Oscar for this! Much deserved!" exclaimed one user. "I hope you win the Oscar for this!! ❗️❗️💯," another expressed the same sentiment.
Alongside the excitement around her Halloween transformation, "The Substance" has already sparked interest among fans. In this new thriller, Moore plays a fading celebrity who takes a black-market drug to temporarily become a younger, idealized version of herself.
The film also features a star-studded cast, including Dennis Quaid, Margaret Qualley, Gore Abrams, Oscar Lesage, and Christian Erickson. With its themes of identity, aging, and self-perception, the movie has prompted Moore to speak publicly about its message.
In a September 2024 CBS interview with Tracy Smith, Moore reflected on societal expectations. The actress, who famously shaved her head for the 1997 film "G.I. Jane," has since maintained waist-length hair.
Reflecting on that unforgettable moment, Moore said, "After I shaved my head, I think I just started to let my hair grow with the idea that you can have long hair if that's what you want."
She added, "Who says that it's not okay? And I've heard it many times. If I didn't think I liked how I looked, then I would cut it." She continued relating this similar expectation to her own life.
When Smith asked how the actress feels looking in the mirror, Moore admitted that her feelings fluctuate. "Some days I look and I'm like, Wow. That's pretty good. And some days, I catch myself dissecting, hyper-focusing on, you know, things that I don't like," she said.
Over time, Moore has learned to accept her insecurities, like loose skin. Rather than fixating on what she dislikes, she focuses on embracing her reality. "But, you know, it is what it is. So, I'm gonna make the best of what is, as opposed to chasing what isn't," she shared.
Another notable instance of Moore's self-criticism involved her round face. "I used to think, 'Oh, like my face, it's like, oh so, like, chubby. I have no angles. I have nothing.' And then you're like, 'Yeah, but now it's, like, loose!' I wouldn't mind some of that chubbiness back, in the right places!" she said.
Reflecting more on "The Substance," Moore shared that the film challenges beauty standards, especially in a scene where her character puts on makeup before a date, and then purposely smudges it. The moment was emotionally intense for her, capturing the common struggle of trying to fix something, only to make it worse.
"For me, it's one of the most heart-wrenching moments in the whole film. And it was at least 15 takes each time. And so, by the end, my face was raw," she said about that scene.
Moore's commitment to her on-screen role was clear at the film's Cannes Film Festival premiere. In a recent interview with The Guardian, she described feeling a mix of anticipation and vulnerability.

She recalled sitting in the 2,000-seat theater, unsure if the film would resonate with audiences or if the intense scenes might be "too off-putting." The audience reportedly enjoyed the film, and Moore said she was "in shock" following their enthusiastic response.

As for her career, Moore finds it puzzling that her role in her latest film has been labeled a "comeback," emphasizing that she never truly stepped away from acting. In response, Moore remarked, "I'll leave others to, like, identify or label it however they need to. As Michelle Yeoh said, 'You were just on pause!'"
