The incident occurred at Annunciation Church on West 54th Street, where police and emergency personnel responded quickly after reports of gunfire.

The City of Minneapolis posted an alert on its official X account urging the public to stay away from the area between Lyndale and Nicollet Avenues. Officials later confirmed that the shooter had been contained and that there was no ongoing threat to the community.

According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara, as reported by CNN, two children were killed and 17 others were injured in the attack. The victims included an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old. Authorities have not said what the children were doing at the time. Of the 17 injured, 14 are children. Two remain in critical condition.

The suspect has been identified as Robin Westman. According to KSTP's 5 Investigates, Westman legally changed her name from Robert to Robin in 2020 and identified as a woman.

Before the attack, videos believed to have been posted by Westman appeared on a now-deleted YouTube channel. O'Hara said that investigators believe Westman uploaded the content.

The videos showed firearms, ammunition, anti-religious imagery, racial slurs, and white supremacist symbols. One video depicted a shooting target with the face of Jesus and weapons marked with names referencing past mass shootings, including Sandy Hook, the Tree of Life Synagogue, and the Christchurch mosque attacks.

In the videos, Westman displayed a handwritten four-page manifesto addressed to family and friends. The letter revealed signs of mental distress and intent. "I don't expect forgiveness...I do apologize for the effects my actions will have on your lives," the letter begins.

The letter continues, "I have wanted this for so long. I am not well. I am not right. I am a sad person, haunted by these thoughts that do not go away. I know this is wrong, but I can't seem to stop myself."

The letter concludes with a request for prayers for the victims and their families. According to KSTP, additional materials found in the video included a shirt featuring the old Minnesota state flag with the phrase "Do it before the anxiety kicks in," references to the Holocaust, and calls for Israel to "fall" and "burn."

A journal written in what appears to be Cyrillic characters included a hand-drawn map of the church. Police reportedly said a smoke bomb shown in the video was used during the attack.
