In addition to being a cultural landmark, Sundance was also a setting for Redford's own personal romance — most poignantly marked by the mountain home once owned by his wife, Sibylle Szaggars Redford.

The multimedia artist and environmental activist was living on the Utah property when she met the Hollywood star at the Sundance Mountain Resort in 1996. They would eventually marry in 2009, and the tranquil majesty of the land shaped their time together.

"This home is truly near and dear to my heart," Szaggars Redford shared when she listed the four-bedroom, five-bathroom property for $3,995,000.

"It has been part of my story and a source of inspiration for my journey as an artist and an environmental activist. For years, I've relished in the sheer beauty of the setting, which is as serene and unspoiled as it is breathtaking," she added.

Tucked into a forest of towering pines, the residence gazes out at Mount Timpanogos, with nearby waterfalls and untouched trails that speak to the couple's shared reverence for nature.

According to Jaisa Bishop of Windermere Real Estate/Luxury Portfolio International, Szaggars Redford decided to sell because she had begun spending more time in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she continued to create and exhibit her art.

Unlike Utah's glamorous, sprawling ski empires, the mountain resort wasn't built to dazzle — it was built to endure. The late actor first encountered Utah's Provo Canyon in the late 1950s and instantly fell in love with it.

For Redford, Sundance was never just a place — it was a feeling. That sentiment shaped everything that followed.

By 1961, he had purchased two acres nearby — a modest beginning to what would become a 5,000-acre sanctuary. At the time, a humble ski area called Timp Haven, run by Scottish immigrants, was being eyed by developers.
