His grief-stricken wife, Chelsey Bridges, shared the devastating news of her husband's passing on his official social media accounts on October 17, 2025, revealing:

"Steve Bridges passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 15th, 2025, and who you saw online was just the characters he created. He was so talented because he was the opposite of all of them. He was the most attentive father, and the best — the best — husband, and the greatest, sweetest man."

In her raw, emotional post, Chelsey apologized for the way she had to share the devastating news — admitting she feared that if she waited any longer, she might never be able to say it at all.

Choking back tears, she revealed that thanks to the internet, Steve was able to live out his dream of making people laugh — a gift she said she would be forever grateful for.

Chelsey further opened up about the heartbreak of unfinished plans, the flood of memories, and the overwhelming sense of everything left unsaid.

She acknowledged the deep emotional toll Steve's death took on their children, and in a strikingly honest moment, said that because they're part of a generation raised online, she wouldn't stop them from grieving publicly — adding that she would likely do the same.

She pleaded with the internet to be gentle and kind, stating simply, "This is life now." Chelsey closed her message with a poignant reminder to others, "Love your family, and take care of yourselves."

According to Peoria, Illinois, police, officers responded to a natural cause of death call at a private residence that morning. Chelsey told TMZ the loss was "totally out of the blue," saying Steve had been feeling great and was actively working on improving his health.

But a chilling family pattern loomed — Steve's grandmother also died in her sleep at 52, and both his father and grandfather passed away in their 40s.

After announcing her husband's passing, Chelsey also posted a heart-wrenching family montage on Instagram, captioning the post, "Don't worry baby [sic]. It's Team Bridges forever. I sure do miss you already. @stevebridges__"

The couple had been married for 16 years and welcomed three children together — a 14-year-old daughter and 10-year-old twin sons. Despite his online stardom, Chelsey emphasized that fatherhood was Steve's greatest joy.

With 2.1 million loyal TikTok followers, Steve skyrocketed to fame through his relatable sketches — so successful he was able to quit his job and pursue comedy full-time. Chelsey said his dream was to one day join the cast of "Saturday Night Live," taking his content as seriously as a stage performance.

"Everyone who had the pleasure, the absolute pleasure of meeting Steve, they all loved him. He was so kind, so genuine, so passionate about his art, and infectious in his many amazing traits. We are all in shock, we grieve with his family, and we are all heavy with the weight of his loss," he added.

"Steve made us all laugh, he became part of my core film team, and the world really lost an amazing man with his passing. Please keep Steve, his family, and his many MANY friends in your thoughts. Rest easy brother..You are forever our 'Mikey' [sic]!" the post concluded.

A GoFundMe page was set up in Steve's honor and had already raised over $47,000 at the time of writing. The message on the campaign reads in part:

“If Steve ever brought joy to your life, please give if you can to assist his wife and three kids with expenses. If you are unable to give at this time, go leave a comment on one of his videos, we cannot say enough how much the kind words from his community mean to us."

Chelsey confirmed a private service will be held to honor her late husband's memory. Gone but never forgotten — Steve leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and a family who adored him.
