The cache, which contains 23,000 files, was handed to the U.S. House Oversight Committee by the Epstein estate.

According to a statement from the U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI, investigators conducted a sweeping search of databases, hard drives, storage units, and physical files.

The operation uncovered more than 300 gigabytes of data and a large volume of disturbing content, including illegal material involving minors. The FBI further noted:

"Teams of agents, analysts, attorneys, and privacy and civil liberties experts combed through the digital and documentary evidence with the aim of providing as much information as possible to the public while simultaneously protecting victims."

Despite the serious nature of the material, officials emphasised that many of the names surfaced due to general social connections, legal disputes, or public associations.

Officials have stressed that the inclusion of any individual in the files does not imply misconduct. The names appear in a range of contexts, from scheduling notes and correspondence to media mentions and event guest lists.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Named in Files

Among the most prominent British names was the former Duke of York, who appeared 173 times across the documents. His name has long been associated with Epstein due to accusations made by Virginia Giuffre.

In 2022, Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit in the United States, alleging that Mountbatten-Windsor sexually assaulted her when she was 17 after she was reportedly trafficked to him by Epstein. However, he consistently denied the claims.

In the end, the case did not go to trial; instead, a settlement was reached outside court. The agreed sum was not disclosed, though legal experts estimated the cost to the former prince, including donations and legal fees, likely exceeded £7 million.

The agreement included no admission of guilt. As part of the settlement, he pledged a substantial donation to Giuffre's charity supporting victims' rights.
