A new baby, a cherished name, and a family legacy that just keeps growing — Whoopi Goldberg's deeply personal announcement stunned audiences on Monday morning as she shared a joyful, tear-jerking surprise: she's a great-grandmother — again.
During a live taping of "The View," the 70-year-old Hollywood legend, EGOT winner, and beloved daytime host shared an intimate family milestone with the cameras.

With glowing pride, Goldberg revealed that her grandson, Mason Dean, and his girlfriend, Hylee Whitley, had welcomed a daughter over the weekend.
"I'm going to start out today because I have some fun news from over the weekend," she told her cohosts, before making the heartwarming reveal.
The newest addition? A precious baby girl weighing 6 pounds, 3 ounces — and already melting hearts.

A Family Photo and a Name That Sparked Social Media Joy
Beaming with pride, Goldberg shared a treasured family snapshot live on air. "That's Lotus, and [that's] Ruby [the dog]. That's her dad, my grandson Mason," she said, beaming.

Cheers and hugs poured in from the panel — but the moment wasn't just about Goldberg. The show also took a moment to celebrate her only daughter, Alex Martin, now a grandmother of two.
Co-host Sunny Hostin couldn't help but swoon over a photo of Mason cradling his newborn. "And he looks in love. He absolutely does." Goldberg, ever the comic even in tender moments, quipped back, "Yeah, that'll change."

Still, as the segment rolled on, the Oscar-winning actress reflected on the beauty of family. "It's a wonderful thing," she said softly. "This is my second." Ana Navarro chimed in, offering a warm wish, "And congratulations to Alex, who is a grandmother again."
'I'm Not the Grandma, I'm the Great-Grandma!'
But if you thought Goldberg would embrace a glamorous nickname like "Glam-ma," think again. When Hostin asked what her great-grandchildren call her, Goldberg clarified in true Whoopi fashion, "No, they call me Whoopi, because I'm not the grandma, I'm the great grandma! So just Whoopi."
Sara Haines brought the laughs, recalling Goldberg's first great-grandchild — now 11 — who had trouble with her Ws, "Oopi, sit down!"

Goldberg smiled at the memory. "She couldn't say her Ws, so I was 'Oopi' for the longest time. So we'll see, but I think this one, she's ready to get stuff done."
The baby's name sparked a social media frenzy, with fans sharing their love in the comments. One Facebook follower gushed, "The baby has a very cool [great-grandmother]." Another declared, "Love the name! Congrats, Grandma!" While a third added, "Love her name!"
This isn't Goldberg's first time stepping into the role of great-grandmother. Her first great-grandchild, Charli Rose, arrived in 2014, and Goldberg shared the emotional moment with fans in a personal video on Instagram.
"I'm doing something I haven't done in 40 years," she admitted in the clip. "I'm actually feeding." She captioned the post, "Everyone meet the new addition to my family Charli Rose and yea I'm a tad awkward it took me a minute been a LONG time! #thankGod4newlife [sic]!"
Now, just over a decade later, Goldberg's family tree has grown even more vibrant — and more visible.
Fame, Family, and the Legacy of Goldberg
Goldberg's granddaughter, Amara Skye, made headlines of her own in 2022 as a contestant on the reality show "Claim to Fame." She credits her grandmother's love and encouragement with helping her take that leap.
"Her approval always matters to me," Skye expressed in an interview with the New York Post, noting Goldberg's eventual support once casting was confirmed.
But Goldberg's impact goes far beyond career guidance. "I see her every day. If I don't see her, it's definitely a call or text. I'm always in her sight and in her mind," Skye stated, painting a picture of a deeply bonded family life.

She added that Goldberg remains hands-on, especially with baby Rose. "She definitely helps me out. We're a very close-knit family ... You know how they say, 'It takes a village?' We are the village."
Three Generations of Women, One Unbreakable Bond
In a 2022 interview with Essence, Skye opened up even further — sharing the spiritual bond she shares with her grandmother. They were born on the same day, a cosmic connection that's only strengthened with time.
"Me and my grandma are super close. She's everything," Skye mentioned. "It gets frustrating because it's like, how am I going to compete with that? But I'm lucky enough to have that."
Talking about their heartwarming bond, Skye explained, "My grandmother's mother raised me for a little bit. My grandmother is a great-grandmother to my daughter. So we've created that connection. There's only five of us in our family. We're all we've got, so we take each other real close."
