Rob Reiner & Wife Michele Reiner Found Dead at Home – What We Know So Far

The film director and his photographer wife were reportedly found dead at their Los Angeles home on Sunday afternoon in a shocking discovery that has stunned Hollywood and the nation.

TMZ reported that two bodies were discovered inside the couple's Brentwood residence. Law enforcement sources told the outlet the bodies were identified as Rob and Michele Singer Reiner.

According to the report, both individuals suffered lacerations that were consistent with a knife. The Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division is investigating the case.

Dispatch audio cited by TMZ captured a firefighter calling for backup to the Brentwood home around 3:30 p.m. The audio did not include details about what occurred inside the residence.

Rob was a well-known actor, director, and producer whose career spanned decades and captivated audiences worldwide.

He began his career as a comedy writer in the 1960s. He later gained fame for his role as Michael "Meathead" Stivic on "All in the Family." Rob went on to direct several major films, including "This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me," "The Princess Bride," and "When Harry Met Sally…"

He met Michele while working on "When Harry Met Sally…" The two wed in 1989 and were married for more than three decades. Their long-lasting Hollywood partnership has now ended in heartbreaking tragedy.

Rob was 78 years old, while Michele was 68.

Homicide Investigation Confirmed As Family Speaks Out

A spokesperson for the Reiner family confirmed the deaths on Sunday evening. "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner," the family spokesperson said in a statement. "We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time."

Law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times there were no signs of forced entry into the residence, a detail that has only intensified questions about what happened inside the home.

"At this time, the Los Angeles Police Department is not seeking anyone as a suspect or as a person of interest," LAPD Lt. Hamilton said. "No one has been detained; no one is being questioned as a suspect." Lt. Hamilton confirmed that the person who initially reported the incident was present at the home, but the individual's identity has not been released.

According to People, multiple sources who spoke with family members said the couple was killed by their son, Nick Reiner. Authorities confirmed Nick, 32, is alive and is being interviewed as part of the investigation.

Arrest Made in Grisly Double Homicide as Son Named Prime Suspect

As per recent updates from law enforcement, that status has now changed. Nick was arrested Sunday night (December 14) and is being held without bail, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. He has since been transferred to Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles.

LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell confirmed Nick's arrest and said he is the suspect in the double homicide. He offered limited details to avoid compromising the ongoing investigation.

"We have our robbery homicide division handling the investigation. They worked throughout the night on this case and were able to take into custody Nick Reiner," said the LAPD chief during an unrelated FBI press conference on Monday, December 15.

According to law enforcement sources, Nick was not at the Brentwood home when his parents were discovered dead. Investigators believe he left the residence at some point after the stabbings.

Sources told ABC News that LAPD officers were able to quickly locate him near the University of Southern California, where he was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Nick Reiner's Past Struggles With Addiction

Nick has previously spoken publicly about his long struggle with drug addiction. In a past interview with People, he said his addiction began in his early teens and led to years of instability.

He described cycling in and out of rehab beginning around age 15. He also said he spent extended periods homeless in several states. "I was homeless in Maine. I was homeless in New Jersey. I was homeless in Texas," Nick said at the time. "I spent nights on the street. I spent weeks on the street. It was not fun."

Nick later said those experiences influenced a semi-autobiographical film he co-wrote, "Being Charlie." He said he eventually returned to Los Angeles and reconnected with his family. "Now, I've been home for a really long time, and I've sort of gotten acclimated back to being in L.A. and being around my family," he stated.

Authorities stressed that the investigation remains ongoing as they work to establish what happened inside Rob Reiner's Brentwood home.
