A Ceremony That Stopped Everyone in Their Tracks

In the photo, Nancy is standing proudly next to her 18-year-old son and daughter, whom she shares with husband and investment banker David Linch, inside a church.

But this wasn't just a weekend photo-op; it was a full-fledged Eagle Scout Court of Honor, and both kids were dressed in complete regalia. All three wore the unmistakable khaki short-sleeved shirts of the Eagle Scouts of America, though John and Lucy were the undeniable stars of the shot.

Their merit badge sashes were packed from end to end, thanks to their years of service, dedication, and achievement. Around their necks, blue neckerchiefs trimmed in red, white, and blue sat neatly, and pinned to their shirts were the highly coveted Eagle Scout Medals.

Nancy's caption was simple but bursting with joy:

"One of the proudest moments of my life last night…John David and Lucy's Eagle Ceremony! Fly My Little Eagles!"

The Eagle Scout Court of Honor is more than a ceremony. It's a moment that recognizes the highest level of accomplishment in scouting, often hosted in places of honor and joined by family, community leaders, and local dignitaries. For many, it marks not just the end of a journey but the beginning of something greater.

Fans Are Shocked by One Detail in Particular

While longtime followers celebrated the twins' hard-earned success, there was something else about the photo that dominated the comments, and it wasn't the medals.

It was John David.

Fans were floored by just how massive Nancy's son has grown. Towering over his mother and sister, he stood like a giant beside the famously petite host, who measures around 5'2". Her head didn't even reach his shoulder, and commenters couldn't get over it.

"How can this be? It was just yesterday you were pregnant 🤷‍♀️ How tall is your son? He is so handsome and your daughter is gorgeous like her mom ❤️," one person wrote.

Another chimed in, "Nancy why didn't you ever mention your son is eight feet tall lol your daughter has the exact same nose as you! Very cute ✨." Someone else exclaimed, "Oh my goodness. Just how tall IS John David??"

There was more. "I cannot believe how tall John David is!! He must have inherited some tall genes from his dad??" another netizen observed. One fan gushed, "Wow! Such an exciting time. How tall is John David. So handsome."

And perhaps the most heartfelt of all said, "They are always so poised. You hit the jackpot with them! And they with you. ❤️"

The Host Who Nearly Lost Her Life to Give Them Theirs

It's not just their size or success that stirs up emotion. It's knowing what it took to bring them into the world.

Nancy gave birth to John and Lucy on November 4, 2007, at the age of 48, a decision that nearly cost her everything. During the pregnancy, she developed serious complications, and the twins were born prematurely.

Shortly afterward, the then–CNN "Headline News" anchor was hospitalized with a blood clot in her lungs, a life-threatening emergency that developed into pulmonary edema.

It was a terrifying ordeal. She was discharged a few days later, but recovery was long and grueling. She remained on medication for months to prevent further clots from forming.

Though she returned to her hosting duties in 2008, she later revealed the full extent of her condition in an interview with "Good Morning America."

Nancy admitted she had been in a wheelchair for months. She described late-in-life motherhood as "grueling," and wouldn't advise other women to wait as long as she did.

But she never expressed regret.

That same year, she told People magazine, "Before I had the babies, I never really let myself love 100%. Lucy and John David have changed all that. There's no way I can't love them 200%. I can't imagine the world without them."

From Miracle Births to Milestones

Nancy has always worn her motherhood proudly and shares frequent updates online. Whether it's birthdays, school achievements, or personal victories, she's never missed a chance to honor her twins.

Last November, when they turned 18, she posted a throwback photo of the twins as babies, writing on Facebook:

"MY MIRACLE BABIES! ONCE IN A LIFETIME! HAPPY BIRTHDAY AWESOME AND MINIME!!!"

And now, as both John and Lucy enter adulthood with the highest rank in scouting and a world of possibility ahead, Nancy's message is clear: they were worth everything.
