The investigation intensified in Rio Rico, Arizona, about 60 miles south of Tucson near the Mexico border. According to CNN, authorities detained a person for questioning late Tuesday and executed a search warrant at a home in Rio Rico. Police were also seen searching a gray SUV that had been pulled over during a traffic stop.

At one point, officers cordoned off Camino Agosto near Interstate 19 as investigators conducted searches related to Nancy's disappearance. But even after hours of activity, law enforcement sources confirmed Nancy had not been located.

Josefina said her son-in-law was detained but insisted "he had nothing to do with that (the case)." She added, "I'm sorry what's happened to (the Guthries). I don't know her, I don't know anything about their lives or what's going on, but I'm so sorry - whoever took her, I hope she got back safe."

The Person Who Was Detained

Shortly after his release, the man detained in Rio Rico spoke to reporters in a nearly 2-minute interview outside his home. The footage, shared on X, shows him visibly shaken and frustrated. When asked if he watched the "Today" show, he replied, "No," adding that he was in shock.

Asked what questions police posed, he said, "Nothing. They didn't ask me no questions [...] They didn't ask me no questions," emphasizing that he was not questioned during the encounter.

When questioned about his car's status, he said, "No. It's right there," pointing to where it was parked. He said officers told him he could go home after returning it. He declined to speak about how authorities treated his family but said, "We're all in shock right now," adding that the police scared his entire family.

Asked whether anything was damaged during the search, he responded, "Yeah [...] They broke the door," pointing to the entrance, and adding, "the garage door in the back."

When pressed about his next steps, he said, "I'll try to clear my name. I didn't do anything [...] I mean, I hope they get the suspect because I'm not it. They better do their job and find the suspect that did [sic] it, so they can clear my name. I'm done. Look what they're putting my family through."

He also agreed with a reporter who mentioned that his mother-in-law was worried about him, reiterating that he had nothing to do with the case.

As for why police targeted his home, he said, "If I would have [sic] known that answer, I would have given it to you, but I don't," adding that officers did not explain their reasoning. Toward the end of the clip, a woman's voice is heard speaking in Spanish from inside the house, before he declined further questions and went indoors.

Authorities later released the detained person. As of now, investigators have not stated whether he is considered a suspect, a person of interest, or simply someone questioned during the ongoing investigation.

The Footage

Now to the images that have captured national attention. The FBI released doorbell camera footage taken outside Nancy's front door the night she disappeared. The video shows a masked, armed individual approaching the home.

According to NBC, the footage does not clearly show the person's face. However, it appears there may be facial hair around the mouth area, and distinctive eyebrows can be seen through the mask's eyeholes.

The individual seems to be carrying a backpack with reflectors, wearing a zip-up jacket, gloves, and light-colored running shoes. Former FBI senior profiler Mary Ellen O'Toole told CNN the person appeared calm and methodical.

"He doesn't seem to manifest really strong signs of being nervous… He's not racing around, nor does he appear jittery. That's impressive to me," she said. "You can only get that calmness from two things: your personality and your experience being in situations like this before."

O'Toole also pointed out what she described as thick gloves, saying the person adjusted quickly, possibly smudging the lens to reduce visibility.

Combined with the backpack and clothing, she said it suggested a certain amount of planning designed to "minimize the amount of physical evidence left at the scene."

The Guthrie family, law enforcement, and the FBI are all hoping that one small detail, a jacket, a backpack, a pair of shoes, might spark recognition. For now, the most haunting image remains that masked figure at the door.

A single knock. A single moment caught on camera, and a family left waiting for answers, because behind every frame of footage and every flashing patrol light is something much simpler: a daughter who wants her mom home.

And somewhere out there, someone may know exactly what happened that night.
