She was the woman who turned a chance stop at a bakery into a decades-long love story and the one who said goodbye when Hollywood lost one of its greatest.

Robert Duvall, who died on February 15, 2026, at age 95, shared his final years with a womanseveral decades his junior. Long before the world knew her as the wife of a screen legend, Luciana Duvall was building a life and career of her own.

Her path to Robert was not planned. It was, by all accounts, a pure coincidence.

A Meeting That Nearly Never Happened

In a January 2011 interview with Esquire, Robert recounted their first meeting: "I met my wife in Argentina. The flower shop was closed, so I went to the bakery. If the flower shop had been open, I never would've met her."

That bakery detour led him to Luciana Pedraza, a woman from Salta, Argentina, who would later become his closest companion for the next four decades.

At the time, their age gap raised eyebrows, and Robert wasn't sure if he should marry such a young woman. He turned to a trusted friend for advice — Wilford Brimley, a former bodyguard to Howard Hughes — and got an answer he apparently never forgot.

"He said, 'Let me tell you something, my friend, the worst thing in the world for an old man is an old woman!'" Robert recalled. The couple went on to build a marriage that lasted 41 years.

The Woman Behind the Man

Luciana was born on January 5, 1972, in Salta, Argentina. She is an actress and director, with credits including "Assassination Tango" (2002), "Portrait of Billy Joe" (2004), and "Wild Horses" (2015).

During her marriage to Robert, she has done far more than stand beside him. Luciana has long been involved in charitable work through the Robert Duvall Institute Inc., a Los Angeles-based foundation established in 2000 in Virginia.

The organization operates exclusively for charitable and educational purposes and provides for the health, education, and relief of children in Argentina who are poor and distressed or underprivileged. The institute reflects a shared connection to Argentina, Luciana's homeland.

Life Together in His Later Years

In July 2021, at age 90, Robert was promoting "12 Mighty Orphans," when he spoke to People about the simplicity of his daily life.

When asked what he loved most about being 90, he said, "Love the most? I don't know if I love any of it, but day to day with my wonderful wife."

He added, "She takes care of me, and I have good friends, and try to work out and keep in some kind of shape."

Staying Active

Even in his final months, Robert kept a routine. In December last year, he shared a video on his official Facebook page showing himself seated and lifting a dumbbell through multiple repetitions.

In the caption, he reflected on his lifelong approach to fitness: "I enjoy having a routine. Though I never went to the gym to get in shape for films. I preferred tennis, swimming, or horseback riding to keep me in shape."

The post offered a glimpse into the steady rhythm of his life — one that included exercise, close friends, and time with Luciana.

It was Luciana who broke the news of his passing to the world — on the same Facebook page where he had shared that video just weeks before.

As we had previously reported, Robert Selden Duvall, the Academy Award-winning actor celebrated for his performances in "The Godfather" and "Apocalypse Now," died on February 15, 2026, at age 95.

While audiences knew him for his commanding screen presence, those closest to him described a far more personal side. In a deeply personal message, his wife offered a glimpse into the man the public rarely saw.

According to NBC News, Robert did not want a formal service.

Instead, his family said he wished to be honored by "watching a great film, telling a good story around a table with friends, or taking a drive in the countryside to appreciate the world's beauty."

His final request echoed the quiet, personal life he maintained outside of Hollywood.

Reflections on Family and a Life Well Lived

The Daily Mail reported that Robert rarely spoke about not having children, choosing instead to focus on his craft and his life experiences.

A source told the outlet that while he had acknowledged in the past that having children "wasn't in the cards," he did not consider it a regret. Additionally, he lived "an incredible life" and that his 95 years were "well spent."
