Meghan Markle Shares Rare Glimpse of Home Life with Sweet Video of Princess Lilibet
From backyard chickens to fresh flowers and a poetry book about motherhood, the Duchess gave her followers a quiet, candid window into her daily life — and every image is waiting for you at the end of this article.
A quiet Monday in Montecito turned into an unexpected window into the Duchess of Sussex's home life.
On 16 March, Meghan posted a series of videos on her Instagram Stories, including a sweet and short clip showing Princess Lilibet chasing chickens around the backyard of the family's California home.
Captured in photos waiting for you at the end of the article, the little girl, wearing a purple jacket and striped trousers, can be seen attempting to pet one of the birds as Meghan laughs in the background.
The footage drew a swift flurry of reactions online. "What a cutie!" one fan wrote while another gushed, "Oh Princess Lillibet [sic] has beautiful ginger hair like her daddy!" However, not all the comments were glowing.
"Is that streaks of grey [sic]?" one netizen asked, referring to the young princess, while another person chimed in with, "More grey hair than I do. And I'm over 50." Still, some comments were even more pointed.
"I'm curious this Meghan Markle insisted that the nanny not brush the child's hair [sic]?" one commenter wrote. Another seemed unimpressed by the glimpse itself, adding, "Oh, sure, that's Lilibet! Would've known that back of the head anywhere, not!"
In addition to the clip of the four-year-old that sparked mixed public commentary, the Duchess documented as she appeared to have spent much of the day in the fresh air.
A separate clip showed her organising a flower arrangement for an outdoor table, while another captured her gathering blossoms from a tree.
She rounded off her Monday Stories with a clip of herself reading "They Bloom Because of You: Poems on the Infinite Love, Growth, and Magic of Motherhood" by Jessica Urlichs.
Meghan, 44, who shares Princess Lilibet and her six-year-old brother Prince Archie with Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, 41, tends to shield her children from the camera, rarely showing their faces in social media posts.
The family settled on the West Coast after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from royal duties in January 2020. In the years since, Prince Harry has returned to England on a number of occasions, while Meghan has not set foot in London in four years.
However, according to reports, that could change this summer. The Duchess of Sussex may make her first trip back to the British capital in July, when Prince Harry launches the Invictus Games there.
For now, though, it is life in Montecito that has her attention. Scroll down to catch the Duchess of Sussex's latest Instagram Stories for yourself, including the sweet clip of a very determined Princess Lilibet in hot pursuit of a chicken.

Princess Lilibet, 4, reaches out to touch a fluffy golden chicken inside what appears to be an enclosed run at the family's Montecito estate, her purple jacket sleeve just visible at the edge of the frame. Shared to Meghan's Instagram Stories on 16 March 2026, the clip offered fans a rare peek at daily life behind the Sussex family's garden gate. | Source: Instagram/meghan

The determined little princess stretches her hand towards the bird as it begins to make its escape, her striped trousers and pink boots a flash of colour against the earthy ground of the enclosure. A patch of low green weeds fills the centre of the frame, with wire fencing visible along the right-hand edge — the chicken, it seems, had somewhere far more important to be. | Source: Instagram/meghan

Meghan leans over a large stone-effect vase brimming with soft pink roses, carefully arranging the blooms on a wooden outdoor dining table at the Montecito estate, scattered petals resting on the surface beside her. She is dressed in a dark long-sleeved top and a black headband, with a lush canopy of green trees filling the background. | Source: Instagram/meghan

A close-up shot reveals the full, abundant arrangement in detail — blush peonies, coral and cream lisianthus, yellow button blooms, and a cluster of pale green hydrangeas packed tightly together in a riot of soft spring colour. The richly layered composition fills the entire frame, with deep green foliage woven throughout. | Source: Instagram/meghan

Meghan's bare arm reaches up into a cascade of trailing purple wisteria, the blooms hanging in clusters against a bright blue sky with sunlight filtering through the surrounding green leaves overhead. The shot is taken from below, giving the image an almost dreamy, upward-looking perspective. | Source: Instagram/meghan

Meghan holds up a copy of "They Bloom Because of You: Poems on the Infinite Love, Growth, and Magic of Motherhood" by Jessica Urlichs, its dark olive-green cover catching the outdoor light as pink roses bloom softly out of focus in the background. Her neatly manicured hand holds the book open towards the camera, the title clearly legible across the front. | Source: Instagram/meghan
