'American Idol' Judge Carrie Underwood's Glam Selfie Leaves Fans Divided — Photos
A glamorous selfie meant to drum up votes for the hit singing competition turned into a whole conversation about makeup, recognition, and natural beauty.
On April 27, 2026, Carrie Underwood took to Instagram to remind her followers to tune in and vote on "American Idol." What she probably didn't expect was that the photo itself would be much more concerning to her followers.
The selfie shows Underwood in full glam mode: sleek honey-blonde hair swept back with the rest falling straight over her shoulders, paired with voluminous lashes, smoky eyeshadow, and a glossy nude lip.
She paired the polished beauty look with a casual dark navy crew-neck tee, holding her hand up toward the camera with five fingers spread wide. The caption was straightforward. She wrote, "It's super important for you all to vote for your favorites to make the Top 5 on #AmericanIdol tonight!"
Simple enough, but the comments section had other plans. The responses were split pretty sharply between worry and defense.
"Omg what happened to Carrie underwood [sic]," questioned one netizen. Another echoed the sentiment, "I would not have even recognized her had the name not been on here." Someone else wondered, "Is that really Carrie??"
One fan took it a step further, sharing a story that quickly got attention. "I showed my husband this picture and I asked him who it was and he had no idea. After I told him he argued w me telling me it's not her! So I ended up showing him her name at the top [sic]," they wrote.
Others went a bit softer but stayed in the same lane. "I don't even recognize her anymore!" one person exclaimed, while another appealed directly to the star, "Oh Carrie… Go back to your natural beauty. You don't need all that makeup and stuff. You're naturally so beautiful."
Not everyone was on board with the criticism. Some fans pushed back, and they weren't subtle about it. "Wow. That's comments are so RUDE! She's beautiful! [sic]" one commenter fired back.
Another offered a practical explanation for Carrie Underwood's heavy makeup: "Guys. When people have to be on camera, make-up is heavy so your fave can be seen from far away. Be kind." And one fan kept it short and sweet, simply saying, "Beautiful human."
