Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson got married in 2014 after dating for four years before that, Simpson was married to Nick Lachey while Eric was with Keri D'Angelo. Before meeting Eric, she had a series of very public romances that ended in tears, and which were the source of so much gossip. Eric, Yale-educated and a former pro-NFL player who played tight end for the San Francisco 49ers retired in 2008 to focus on other areas of life and family. Together, they have two beautiful children that are their replicas.

Just before the couple got married, Simpson announced in 2011 that she was pregnant. Their daughter, Maxwell Drew Johnson was born in 2012 and their next, Ace Knute Johnson was in formation already before the year ended! Talk of moving fast! Did the news of baby number two shock Simpson? I was extremely shocked...because I was going through a lot of hormonal changes, trying to get back to the old, vibrant Jessica. You know, it was kind of like a one-night stand. And it happened, all over again!"

The following year, 2014, with all the baby fever gone, the couple finally tied the knot in San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, Calif. They have been together since then and if he Instagram family photos are anything to go by, very much in love and happy.

When asked by PEOPLE Magazine what the secret to a lasting relationship is, Simpson simply said; “making out!”

“I think the secret to a beautiful, loving marriage is just making out! Don’t forget to kiss. It’s more intimate sometimes for a lot of people and if you forget that, you forget why you fell in love in the first place. It always begins with a kiss.”
