She dropped a bombshell when she confessed that she has been battling bipolar II disorder this week. But she did not let that stop her from celebrating her beau’s boyfriend.

Mariah Carey is one brave woman as she admitted about her mental illness and still appeared in public to show her love for her boyfriend, Bryan Tanaka’s birthday and join him in his celebration in Beverly Hills on Wednesday. Daily Mail has the scoop.

The singer appeared to be happy as she beamed widely and held hands with Bryan, looking madly in love with him.

She surely was dressed for the night as she showed her hourglass curves and tanned and toned pins in a little black dress. She slung a leather jacket across her shoulder and added extra height by wearing a pair of heeled peep-toe boots.

The birthday boy was also stylishly dressed as he donned a navy varsity jacket and bleached jeans for the outing.

The outing came after the 48-year-old revealed that she had bipolar II disorder. She disclosed to PEOPLE that she was in denial and was afraid of being exposed after her 2001 diagnosis and hospitalized for a physical and mental breakdown.

“I didn’t want to believe it…Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me. It was too heavy a burden to carry and I simply couldn’t do that anymore. I sought and received treatment.”

The treatment came after what she called “the hardest couple of years I’ve been through,” which involved her professional life, an E! reality show and romantic issues.

Bipolar II is difficult to diagnose and the difference between bipolar I and II is that those with bipolar II won’t have experienced a full manic episode.

Mariah is positive about the future though.

“I’m actually taking medication that seems to be pretty good. It’s not making me feel too tired or sluggish or anything like that. Finding the proper balance is what is most important.”
