The former First Lady died after she refused to receive further medical treatment. She had been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other illnesses.

Bill Clinton wrote on Twitter that Barbara had been a remarkable woman. He said she had grit, grace, brains, and beauty.
The former President stated that she was fierce and feisty in support of her family, friends, her country, and her causes. He added that she had shown them what honest, vibrant, and full life looks like.

Clinton concluded by saying that he and Hillary and mourned her passing and blessed her memory. News outlets have also taken to social media to cover her passing.

Her funeral has been planned for 11 am on Saturday at St Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston. She will lie in repose from noon until midnight on Friday at the church.
The funeral service is by invitation only.
