Mark Consuelos breaks his silence amid the shaming of Kelly Ripa's bikini photo

TV show host, Kelly Ripa, found herself in the middle of a social media storm when her husband of 22 years, Mark Consuelos, posted a photo of her on Instagram.

On March 25, 2018, Consuelos shared a photo of the 47-year-old Live! With Kelly & Ryan star with his 802,000 followers. In the image, Ripa was wearing a skimpy bikini.

As reported by ET Online some of his followers were offended by the image and shared their complaints in the comment section.

Instagram user Sharon Finnegan suggested that there should be a 'cutoff age where age appropriatiness [sic] comes into play.'

Not only did Finnegan imply that Ripa was too old to wear a bikini, or that she doesn't have the right body type for it, she also said Ripa was tempting teenagers.

'Just because you can rock a bikini, doesn't mean you should. When you have teenagers whose friends can oggle pictures, then it's creepy,' Finnegan concluded.

Another Instagram user, Aida Berreto, said it's 'not normal for a woman to look like a child, especially when she is in her 40s.' She added that if Consuelos 'loves her that way then she is blessed,' but feels that a woman, especially a mother, should have 'meat on those bones.'

Ripa's fans rushed to her defense, but the comment that gained the most traction, was when Consuelo stepped in and addressed the haters personally.

He said that he is incredibly proud of his wife who works hard in her 'professional life and her commitment to exercise.' He didn't find it strange for her to be wearing a bikini at age 47.

'[She] will no doubt wear one for many years to come. If that offends you in some way, if it triggers you, or some other psychosis you’re suffering from, I suggest you get over it and get used to it.'

Ripa met Consuelos 23 years ago while they were both working on the set of All My Children. They eloped in 1996. Consuelos can currently be seen in Riverdale; he portrays the part of Hiram Lodge, Veronica's father.

The couple has three children ranging in ages from 15 to 21, and divide their time between Manhattan, where she records her talk show, and Vancouver, where Consuelos films Riverdale.
