Do you recognize this handsome man? Over 100,000 people took to the streets during his funeral

The legendary actor gathered a huge number of admirers and supporters in his lifetime. Following his tragic death, his funeral became a testimony to his massive popularity.

Rudolph Valentino, the Italian-born Hollywood icon, is one of the most famous names in the world of movies. He is most remembered for his starring roles in some popular silent films during the 1920's era.

According to The Vintage News, the actor was adored by millions of people throughout his life. Over 100,000 people took to the streets to pay him tribute following his death in 1926, at the young age of 31.

The actor fell down at a hotel in New York on August 15 that same year and was immediately treated for inflammation of the appendix. However, his condition never improved, and he ultimately passed away.

The heartthrob had even discussed the future of his career with the doctors right before his death.

Following his death, everyone gathered for the star's funeral service and his body was put for public viewing at Saint Malachy's Roman Catholic Church.

Several followers of the deceased actor claimed at that time that the body on display was not genuine. The company that arranged Valentino's funeral had declined the rumors.

People were so adamant about seeing their favorite star and reaching the church to take a look at the actor's body that they even smashed the windows.

Some reports even emerged that numerous women committed suicide when the news of Valentino's death broke out.

To bring the things back to order, over a hundred officers were deployed in the city in an attempt to calm down the chaotic scenario.

It was not just his fans that were sent into a state of shock because of the tragic incident. Celebrities like Polish actress, Pola Negri, who was alleged to be Valentino's fiance, collapsed due to hysteria when she stood next to the actor's coffin.

His body was then taken across the nation by a train for a second funeral service on the West Coast. However, there weren't any burial arrangements made.

The fame achieved by Valentino could not be compared to any actor of the current generation. The ruckus created by his massive followership post his untimely death was a testament to that fact.
