Chevy Chase has shied away from the spotlight for quite some time. Reports revealed that he has shed off a lot of weight.

Radar Online revealed that the 74-year-old actor has lost about 110 pounds after he allegedly underwent a gastric bypass surgery.

The media outlet claimed that Chase used to weigh 300 pounds. His recent surgery and his sessions in rehab paved the way for him to shed off more than a third of his weight.

A source claimed that the actor went to rehab for the second time to finally end his addiction to alcohol. Also, reports received by the source suggested that he went through with the above-mentioned procedure “to limit the food he eats.”

The weight gradually declined and he has looked better than he has in years. The insider added that his journey towards sobriety was the key.

Chase made the decision to shift his lifestyle after reportedly “hitting rock bottom.”

"He was grossly overweight by more than 100 pounds, and that was making his battle against the bottle so much harder," said the source.

A diet expert named Dr. Stuart Fisher – the author of Park Avenue Diet – revealed that although Chase looks good now, the surgery done on his body does not ensure that he is now safe from the damage he may have previously done to himself.

"Any heart disease or circulatory problems caused by his dietary indiscretions are permanent," said Dr. Fisher.
