R. Kelly's ex-wife cries uncontrollably while describing years of his abuse during their marriage
In her tearful confession, Andrea Kelly reveals how she realized she was in an abusive marriage and why she's only speaking up now.
Almost 10 years since she left her husband R. Kelly, Andrea Kelly is speaking up about their abusive marriage amid the scandal involving his predatory behavior towards underage women.
Andrea said “it is time” when asked why she was opening up today about her troubled union with the famous singer whom she was married to from 1996 to 2009 and have three children with. Appearing on TV One’s ‘Sister Circle’, she tearfully revealed how she realized she was being abused while pondering over leaving him.
She recalled praying to God to show her the answer on whether she should leave or not, asking for an immediate sign. And this, according to her is what happened.
“'God, I need an answer today, not tomorrow, not in an hour, I need it now and the first thing God told me, He said, ‘grab your laptop’ …and once I grabbed the laptop He said, ‘put in domestic violence.’ And I’m thinking to myself, I’m not that girl. I’m not the teeth missing, I’m not the broken bone girl…I kept scrolling and at the end of the domestic violence awareness website there was a questionnaire. There were 17 questions and they ask you has your abuser ever done…of the 17 Robert had done 15 to me.”
When asked why she’s speaking up now, Andrea admitted she felt she lacked strength then.
“I was not strong enough. How can I be a voice for the voiceless when I don’t even have my own? How can I be powerful for the powerless when I don’t even have my own. So I had to wait until God said, ‘okay daughter, it is time.'”
After admitting to being a victim of domestic violence herself, many wonder if she was also aware of Kelly’s other illegal and abusive relations with women in the past. Since marrying Aliyah in 1994 who was only 15 when he was 27, the R & B singer has been hounded by accusations of sexual crimes committed against minors.
Today, as a result of the many sexual offenses he’s been tied to which he all denied, Kelly has been banned from the streaming sites Spotify as of May 2018 along with Apple Music and Pandora. The ‘Time’s Up Women of Color’ movement also called for a boycott of his music and performances.
There has been no recorded response of Kelly regarding his ex-wife’s latest revelation.
