Val Kilmer makes rare public appearance with mini-me son after battling throat cancer

The 58-year-old film and stage actor, Val Kilmer, was spotted enjoying an evening out with his son Jack at the opening of Carte Blanche.

Kilmer later shared a photo to his Facebook page, which shows him posing with the 23-year-old Jack and Eva Dolezalova, who is dating Jack.

He wrote in the caption that he is proud of them both for 'generating such interest in a short when many small budget films can't get this much attention.' Jack and Eva collaborated on the creation of Carte Blanche.

As reported by People, the short film follows a young actor who comes to term with fame after landing the leading role in a massive film production.

This was a rare public appearance for Kilmer, who battled throat cancer for more than two years. People also reported that he was first diagnosed in 2015.

Kilmer was rushed to the hospital 'for a possible tumor' but initially denied all rumors of his ill-health. He opened up about his battle with the disease in 2017.

The Saint star told Hollywood Reporter back in December that the treatment on his trachea changed his voice and that he is often short of breath.

He admitted to being miserable and distraught during that trying time in his life. His daughter Mercedez was also in a vehicle accident, and they were treated in the same hospital.

Kilmer, a Christian Scientist, credits his faith for seeing him through the worst of it. The chemotherapy sessions were a success, and he has since won the battle against cancer.

After his hiatus, Kilmer will return to the big screen with a bang when he reprises one of his most famous film roles: Tom 'Iceman' Kazanski in the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick.
