Joe Jackson, father, and founder of the extraordinarily musically talented Jackson clan passed away on the 27th of June 2018, a victim of pancreatic cancer, reported TMZ.

Joe was hospitalized earlier this month due to his terminal cancer and was accompanied in his final moments by some of his children and grandchildren, and his wife Katherine.

Joe was first hospitalized in 2016 after coming down with a high fever, and as a result, his cancer was diagnosed. His health had been fragile for some time, and in 2015 he was implanted with a pacemaker after suffering from 3 heart attacks and a stroke.

Joe and his wife Katherine married in 1949 and went on to have 10 children together: Maureen, Sigmund, Toriano, Jermaine, La Toya, Marlon, Brandon, Michael, Steven, and Janet.

“If I have been fortunate enough to impact others it is only because I, myself, have been greatly impacted (***) My father, my incredible father, drove me to be the best that I can."

Janet Jackson, TMZ, 22nd of June 2018.

Under Joe's direction all his children - except Brandon who lived only one day - went on to successful musical careers.

In the early 1960s Joe began grooming his sons Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael into a musical group called the Jackson 5. This was the beginning of the family's meteoric rise into the music business.

Later, Joe was to play a fundamental part in the launch of Michael Jackson's and Janet Jackson's solo careers. Michael Jackson, who became known as King of Pop and was one of the most successful musicians/songwriters of all time, predeceased his father, passing away in 2009 at the age of 50.

Joe had a difficult relationship with his children, with several allegations of physical and emotional abuse being leveled at him by his offspring.

Michael and his siblings accused Joe of physical brutality, to which he admitted but maintained that it was due to his harsh methods that they had become so successful.

Janet Jackson spoke about her father when she received the Impact Award at the Radio Disney Music Awards in Hollywood, telling her audience that if she had become a person who impacted on others, it was due to the powerful presence of her mother and her father in her life. She credited Joe with driving her to become the very best that she could be.

Joe was involved in a long-term affair with Cheryl Terrel, with whom he fathered a daughter, Joh’Vonnie Jackson, 43; but he never divorced his wife Katherine.

Joe Jackson gave the world some of the most celebrated singers/musicians of the last 60 years, and it maybe that his grandchildren will carry his legacy into the future.
