Meghan Markle caught making another royal faux pas with Prince Harry at engagement with the Queen
The Duchess of Sussex keeps on making headlines and causing controversy as she gets used to the royal protocol. Meghan and Harry have never been shy about showing affection in public, but in a recent clip from an event they attended alongside the Queen, the couple is clearly showing restraint not to break the protocol.
Meghan Markle is living the dream. An American girl that comes from nothing then succeeded in Hollywood and ended up getting married to a Prince, Markle is still struggling with some of the rules of the royal family.
Recently, the newlyweds joined Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace for the Queen’s Young Leaders Awards. In a clip making the rounds on social media, the couple was caught almost holding hands before realizing they shouldn’t, which led to an awkward moment for them.
In the clip, Meghan is seen subtly reaching out for Harry’s hand, and when he’s about to reciprocate, purely in instinct, he seems to realize the mistake and pulls back his hand, holding his other side instead.
While there’s not a written rule that says royals aren’t allowed to hold hands in public events, they usually refrain from showing affection in public. And since the Queen has set the example, it seems like Meghan and Harry didn’t want to disrespect her.
Robin Kermode, an expert in body language, previously told Mail Online: “The Queen rarely holds hands with her husband in public and this seems to have set an unwritten precedent for the other royals.”
Even Kate Middleton and Prince Willian have followed the unspoken rule, and though they seem to be a happy couple, they rarely show signs of affection in public.
Meghan is making her best efforts to appear professional and royal in front of the Queen, and while she has mastered several royal costumes already, anyone can make a mistake from time to time.
In the same event, the beauty committed another royal faux pas, but she quickly realized and was able to cover it. While getting a seat to take an official photo with the young leaders that were being awarded at the event, Meghan crossed her legs.
The moment, captured on camera, shows how she realized her mistake and quickly changed to the “duchess slant,” the seating position adopted by women in royalty when they have “to sit for an extended amount of time while keeping poise and posture,” according to Myka Meier, a royal etiquette expert.
