Mathew Knowles reveals plans to renew wedding vows with much younger wife

Matthew Knowles is following in his daughter’s footsteps as he announces his plans to renew his vows with his wife. He shares a video of his announcement and even took a swipe at those who doubted his marriage.

Matthew Knowles seemed to have been inspired by his daughter Beyonce’s recent renewal of vows with her husband Jay-Z that he’s now planning to do the same with his wife.

The 66-year-old announced the news on his Instagram after revealing he was celebrating his 5th year anniversary with his second wife, celebrity realtor Gena Avery. He wrote,

“My wife and I are leaving today to go on our 5th wedding anniversary to our secret location to renew our vows. Cheers to another 5 years.”

He added in the video he shared that though some people “gave us six months, it’s been a wonderful, incredible, loving five years.”

The music manager wed Gena in 2013 without the presence of his two daughters Beyonce and Solange. The couple dated for 18 months prior and years after his public split with Beyonce’s mother Tina Knowles in 2009. Matthew and Tina were married for 31 years before the 64-year-old found out her husband had cheated on her with Alexsandra Wright and even fathered a son, Nixon, with her.

Matthew once admitted while promoting his book ‘Racism: From The Eyes’ that he was attracted to Tina because she was light-skinned and even thought she was white. He told Ebony magazine,

“I used to date mainly white women or very high-complexion black women that looked white, "I actually thought when I met Tina, my former wife, that she was white. Later I found out that she wasn’t, and she was actually very much in-tune with her blackness.”

Matthew’s plans to renew his vows comes in the heels of his daughter’s own renewal of vows with Jay-Z which was revealed to the public after the fact during the opening show of the couple’s ‘On The Run II’ tour. They surprised fans by sharing footages from the ceremony which also marked their 10th wedding anniversary. Dressed in white, they exchanged vows in front of their three children, Blue Ivy, and twins Rumi and Sir.

Their second wedding marked a sweet start for the couple who went through rough times due to Jay-Z’s confessed infidelity.
