Kim Kardashian has come to the defense of her sister Kylie Jenner whose inclusion in Forbes’ 2018 list of the ‘60 Richest Self-Made Women’ is receiving a lot of backlash. Tweets are claiming the 20-year-old doesn’t deserve the title considering she was born into an affluent family and just rode on the success her sister Kim carved out for them.

However, the 37-year-old reality star who also joins Kylie in the list slammed her sister’s detractors by saying she deserves to be part of the list because she is self-made. In a phone interview with Refinery29 she insisted,

"I really didn’t get it, because she is 'self-made' — we are all 'self-made. What, because we came from a family that has had success? To me, that doesn’t really make sense... I know so many people like that [who] haven’t turned out to be as successful as Kylie. If anything, I've seen the complete opposite."

Kim continued that she was even proud of her sister for using her insecurities as a platform to build a successful cosmetics empire. Kylie started injecting her lips when she was 17 and ended up building a fortune out of lipsticks.

Kim also said she and her siblings never depended on their parents growing up.

“Me, Kylie, not one [of the siblings] has ever depended on our parents for anything besides advice. That’s how I lived my life with my dad [Robert Kardashian]. He never gave me anything. We might have the opportunity, but I’ve seen it go the complete opposite way. Nobody works harder than my sisters and my mom."

Kylie’s fortune according to Forbes is mainly due to her Kylie Cosmetics company which has an estimated $230 million net profit this year. This plus her income from her family’s reality show and endorsement deals for Puma and PacSun place the young star’s worth conservatively at $900 million.

The magazine predicts by late this year her company will steer her to become the youngest self-made billionaire in the world, joining the ranks of Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg. Meanwhile, her sister Kim is worth $350 million.
