Famous actress announces devastating family loss just weeks after her engagement
Katharine McPhee’s happiness is overshadowed by grief.
Katherine McPhee,34, singer, actress, and songwriter, announced her engagement to record producer, David Foster, 68, on the 3rd of July 2018. She was ecstatic and filled with joy, but just two weeks later, she is heartbroken.
On the 17th of July 2018, McPhee announced on Instagram that her beloved father, Daniel McPhee had passed away.
Just a few days ago, McPhee announced on Twitter that she was canceling a weekend of shows in order to fly to Los Angeles for a family emergency. “It breaks my heart to disappoint anyone. Sending all my love.”
It is now apparent that the family emergency was her father's failing health.
“I can’t believe I’m even writing this, but it is with heavy heart that I share that my sweet sweet Papa left this earth yesterday morning. We as a family are completely heartbroken and devastated.”

McPhee and her father were particularly close and she considered him her best friend, her greatest fan, and unconditional supporter.
Her deepest sadness is that he never had the chance to see her fulfill her dream of performing on a Broadway musical.

McPhee is currently starring in the Broadway musical Waitress in New York City. Waitress is based on a movie and tells the story of Jenna Hunterson, a waitress in an abusive relationship with her husband Earl.
When Jenna unexpectedly becomes pregnant she begins an affair with her gynecologist Dr. Jim Pomatter and decides to enter a pie contest and use the prize to start a new life.
McPhee is playing the lead role of Jenna to excellent reviews. She shared that she believes that her father will be 'there' when her performances resume next week,
McPhee has counted on Foster for his support and help in overcoming this difficult moment in her life.
